7 week period :'(

posted 11th Jan
i've had my first period after having dexter vid c-section for nearly 7weeks now!! :'(
(i'm 14weeks5days PP)

I got put on the contraceptive pill about 3 days before I came on (docter told me I could either wait untill my first day of my first period or just start it straight away, so, not knowing when my period would be coming, I started straight away).

I kept taking the pill while I was on, had a gap like you're meant to then started on the next strip, all the while, STILL BLEEDING!

The first 4 weeks of the period the blood was very thin, bright red and very heavy and constant with a few pea sized clots here and there, then it eased off and I had about 3 days of nothing, and then it slowly, over about a week, came back and I've been fulll on heavy bleeding again! so that's about 7 weeks now of a near enough constant period! It's doing my head in, I'm getting so upset because of it! I feel disgusting! I told my Health Visitor the other day about it and she said to go talk to the doctor about it and he may put me on a stronger pill to help stop the bleeding or something? I'm making an appointment monday as my doctor isn't in today.

Whats your thoughts? why is this period lasting sooooo long!?

Maybe you are having a reaction to that pill. I get like that with some brands.

I was on the same pill for 5 years before getting pregnant, so that's why he put me on it again after. well, I asked to be put back on it.

Well I don't know what to tell you than. You should try going and talking to your doctor. Good luck!

Depending on what you are on it could be the pill. I was on Ortho Micronor for a while and when I first started taking it I bled for almost two months straight. I asked my doctor about it and she said that it was because Ortho Micronor is a mini pill that contains only progestin which works to prevent pregnancy by thinning the line of the uterus and that is why I bled so long.

do you think that could happen? cause i used to take this same pill for 5 years before getting pregnant. I didn't think it would be to do with the pill cause it worked so well for me before. x

I'm not a doctor so I don't know for sure but it kind of makes sense to me. You just had a baby which causes the lining of the uterus to get thicker. I know you have PP bleeding that is it going back to normal and all but if there is progestin in the pill you are taking it would make sense if it was thinning the lining more.

Cool, i'll have a look at the box when I get a chance. Cheers.
Going to the doctors on Monday anyway, just wondered if anyone out there could shed some light. Thank you. x

I'm surprised the dr was ok with you starting it right away. They normally like to wait until you stop bleeding before starting bc, which is why they don't normally talk about it until the 6 week pp visit. Are you on the mini pill? For me that caused constant bleeding and eventually I got pregnant through it.

it was at my 6week pp check that he put me back on the pill.
(I'd stopped the pp bleeding at 3 weeks pp)
I'm not sure what the Mini Pill is? I'm on a pill called Cilest.

The mini pill is a progesterone only pill. They normally stick you on that if you're breastfeeding. It's not as effective as the regular pill, but it doesn't affect breastfeeding. I looked up cilest though and it's a combo pill. I would just talk to your ob about the bleeding. They'll probably try switching you to a different pill and see if that's fixes it.

I googled it. Cilest does work by thining your uterus which is why you are bleeding. I would stop it and go to your doctor. Dont know why he would prescribe that,
