Big bites & Not chewing food.

My LO is 21 months of age and is constantly trying to swallow what he's eating whole. I tell him to chew it up real good but he can't seem to grasp the concept.. But then again i think he only does it because he has ABSOLUTELY no teeth towards the back of his mouth.. He only has 7 teeth and they are all in the front.
What can I do to try and get him to chew it up better??
I've his food into smaller pieces but he will take several small pieces at one time. He raises hell if I don't let him feed his self..
I'm worried that he's going to do it while I'm not around and choke..
I need some help here, FAST lol.

I wish I could tell you. My 32 month old is JUST starting to stop doing this & we did baby led weaning & he's been choking the WHOLE time. I just set with him, limit what is on his plate & keep reminding. He really wanted a whole slice of apple recently instead of the small chunks so I let him have it & he choked right in front of me - as in eyes bugging, had to turn him upside down & hit his back several time s& then he puked. My 1st was a mouth stuffer, but not like this one. Maybe someone else has a better answer, but for me it's been a huge PITA that I just have to set very vigilantly with him during every meal & snack & keep an eye. It's only a PITA because he can't eat ever in the car or on the go, because he will choke himself, over & over. He is pretty sharp in all other areas, but never seems to learn with this one.

Only thing I can think of is give him small cut up pieces one at a time. Dont give him the opportunity to grab several, and explain to him why youre doing it? I hope it works out soon!

My 20 month old does this and it kills me. I give him little pieces even though he has all of his teeth, minus 3 which are still coming through (it'll be about another week before he has all 20) and he will shove as many little pieces into his mouth as he can, then he throws up because he gets choked He also has this werird habit of putting food in his mouth, chewing it up and then refusing to swallow it or spit it out, so he just runs around with a mouth full of food and if you try to get it out of his mouth he'll scream, bite you and get so worked up he chokes, and throws up. Sigh. It's really scary sometimes. He gets 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast every day and he eats them in under 60 seconds because he doesn't chew, just shoves in his mouth and swallows. So if you figure it out, let me know

Peyton does it too and he's 18 months. He flips out though if I don't let him have his whole plate. He has plenty of teeth and he still refuses to actually chew his food good until he has a whole mouthful of food and he has no choice but to chew or he will spit it back out. Drives me crazy.

I've done EVERTHING!!! Guess I just have to put up with his fits and give him one piece at a time on his own plate..
