The cat slapped LO across the face....

So Kiki & Mr. Smoke are usually great together. I know Kiki's been a little rough lately with him. She's been in this hyper phase for a week or so and she's still gentle with Mr. Smoke, but sometimes she's a little rough without trying to be. These guys are like the bestest of friends.

But the other day, I was checking my email and I heard Kiki go "Ow, ow, ow"! And I turn around and Mr. Smoke had his paw stuck in her hair. He was a little panicked himself. I think Kiki's reaction really scared him honestly...Anyway, whatever happened, he got her good. Usually he does soft paws, but I'm guessing she was rough with him and he had had enough...

She's okay. I'm a little pissed at Mr. Smoke and he's been pouting in his closet all day. He's almost 15 years old. He knows better...so I'm letting him do his pouting, but MIL seen it and is really ticked about it....

I'm not taking the cat's side or anything, but I'm not taking the kid's either...I know these two...and neither one of them means harm, but is it really all that bad that I don't have like...a consequence to this? Or like...I don't know how to word it. Is there something I should do about this? Cause people are making me feel like smurf for not doing anything...and I don't see anything that needs to be done since nothing was done out of anger...I don't think anyways.

I feel the same way that you do. Did you ask her what she did to maybe cause that sort of reaction? or maybe he did it by accident. I feel like if you know your pet well enough to know they aren't violent or etc. I wouldn't punish them too badly.

What do they want you to do? haha, give away the cat?
You'd think she'd be more bummed over that then over the cat swatting her.

I agree, there shouldn't be like a consequence to it. You said it's not in his nature, he was probably just spooked. Poor babies.

It's a cat. Cat's sometimes scratch people. If your daughter provokes the cat, she will get scratched. I think that's consequence enough for her to learn, right? As far as punishing the cat... once again, it's a cat. Lol

I don't think you're awful for doing it. A cat that old is going to get irritated very easily. And the fact that he's hiding out, he knows he did something wrong. I'd let your daughter know that she needs to play a bit nicer, softer. Explain the cat is getting old and she just needs to be gentle. I don't think he did it because he's mean... he was just at his last straw.

BTW, don't waste $20 on the kitty caps (saw someone else suggest it). They don't work. The cat will chew them off and you'll find little plastic caps all throughout your house

I let Hailey and my cat duke it out. If Hailey's being a jerk, she gets no sympathy. If the cat is being a jerk, she gets shunned for a while. Usually they're ok. Not friends though, lol.

His claws are actually pretty fierce. He has a new nail sharpener and so I think maybe he was trying for soft paws, but his claws have gotten so sharp now, that it was an accident. Like...you should have seen his face when I turned around. He looked really upset about it himself. And the marks aren't as deep as they could have been if he really wanted to hurt her....thing is is he never really wants to...I just...I don't know. The caps wouldn't stand a chance though. He doesn't even want a collar...caps would embarrass him.

Oh weird, my friend uses them on her cats and she hasent had a problem

I had a pet rat when LO was actually little. He had never in his life bit anyone, I had had him for years and he was the most chill rodent ever. I am guessing she put her arm down wrong and pinched his nuts or something, but he freaked out and clawed or bit her. It was BAD. It's been 7 years and she still has the scars from it, but yeh same deal. What can you do really? The pet doesnt know what they did was wrong, and it's too late now to try to discipline for it. SO just have to be careful and keep a closer eye in the future is all you can really do

She didn't really say anything. I mean, I asked, but her ear was bleeding pretty good so I was quick to get that taken care of and whatnot. I yelled at Mr. Smoke and he took off crying in his closet. Just got done wiping the goobers out of his eyes a few minutes ago. I know he feels bad...so I mean, me yelling at him and him knowing he hurt Kiki, I feel was punishment enough....but everyone else is super pissed.

DS is still too small to really understand the concept of being nice to the animals and our cat is declawed, so when he slaps him DS just laughs and tries to get him to do it again. I stand by the idea that if my child wants to provoke an animal and I've already warned him and he does it again I'll let that animal swat him. It'll teach him better than I can by telling him no. I got scratched something awful as a kid for being mean to our cat and that's the only thing that taught me to be nice.

We recently got a cat and he's a bastard to all of.us but my DD never leaves him alone so she always has a cat scratch somewhere. He got her in the face a few times and I usually put him in my room for the day but that's all I can do and DD knows better then to mess with him. If she does she gets scratched and she knows that.

Don't feel like smurf over it. To avoid it try clipping his claws every few weeks. It helps
