6 Month Old VERY Attached to Mommy!

posted 10th Jan
My son is almost 6 months old and only breastfeeding. I know that babies that breastfeed are usually attached. He has also been co-sleeping with my dh and I since he was 2 days old. He used to nap atleast 4 hours in a day, NOW I'm lucky if I can get him to take a 15 minute nap without me laying beside him. He would also take these naps in his crib, up to 2 1/2 hour naps! Now, not at all. I have to cuddle with him, sneak away, and he usually up within 10-15 minutes crying. This is my biggest issue right now. I love my baby being attached to mommy, but I can't even get anything done. Another question, breastfeeding, he will not take a bottle. We've tried so many things, someone else giving it to him while I leave the room, different bottles, everything. Nothing works. I love my little man, but mommy needs some time for herself too. I've never been away from him since birth longer than 1 hour. I'm 20 years old and still new to certain subjects, but I'm a great mom. I just need help! Thank you!

6 months is old enough to try a sippy.

And sleep regressions are normal at this age, it has nothing to do with co-sleeping or breastfeeding. He could be teething, or just having trouble learning to self soothe between sleep cycles.

Try wearing him around the house so you can get your stuff done too. As for the nursing some kids never take a bottle. You can try leaving him for a few hours and if he gets hungry enough he should take the bottle. I had a friend whos daughter would drink 6oz total while she was at work then would just cluster nurse as soon as she got home.

aw you're so cute!

The napping thing...ugh I remember those days. As he gets a little older he'll sleep deeper and you'll be able to sneak away.

The bottle thing- both of my children were breastfed and my son had no problem switching back and forth from bottle to breast, breast to bottle. My daughter however, would never take one. Eventually I got her to take a straw sippy, you can try that in a few months!

DS is 18 months and still like that except doesn't breastfeed as often but he is still always attached to me and he hates being in any kind of carrier because he prefers to be up in my arms but then down, up and down all day long. The only me time I get is at night when everybody is asleep and I have to stay in bed with him because if I get up then usually 10 min. Later he wakes up. He even throws a fit if I try and get in the shower so he gets in there with me too. :/ DS, DD and I spend a lot of time in one room doing stuff I can do with one hand because DS is always on me. It's quite a pain so I get it.

I'm hoping that it is just a phase. I feel so bad wanting me time, when I wanted it when he actually napped well! I would love to have those 1 hour naps back just to relax or do laundry!

Do you have a moby wrap? I keep my son in it while I do housework and he's usually happy in there, awake or sleeping... plus I can breastfeed him while he's in there so it's really convenient for the days that he wants to use me as a pacifier... since he won't keep one in his mouth for more than 5 mins lol...

Also if you have a bouncer seat, jumparoo, swing or any activity thing that he likes while he's awake or sleeping you can always move that to whatever room you need to clean or whatever... I do that with DS when I need to use chemicals to clean or something and I don't want him to get too close to them

This is exactly how he is! You explained my life! I knew I wasn't alone, but reading that made me feel better.

Don't feel bad, wanting you time is only human. It is refreshing and helps people be better parents when they get breaks.
