New Carseat Advice??
posted 10th Jan
My four month son is pretty big for his age. He weighs 18lbs 5oz and 27.5in long. His feet are starting to reach the end of his carseat and he's almost at the maximum weight. I was looking at the all-in-one carseats that can be rearfacing and I was thinking about getting it next month when I get my taxes back.
Do you think this is a good idea? When did you get a new carseat for your baby? Any suggestions?

If he is reaching the height and weight requirements for the infant carrier, then yes, you need to get a new seat. He needs to rear face until one AND 20 pounds, so a convertible is a great option.

Yeah, you can get a convertible. Keep him rf though. We switched at 9 months but she can still fit the requirments her infant seat at 14 months lol. Most infant Seats go to 30 inches.

Dd was switched to a convertible carseat at 3 mos (britax marathon which was too big for my car so we got a Radian after her first birthday that RFd up to 45lbs?) she outgrew the radian on her third birthday so she's FF in a britax frontier 85. Definitely look into diono radians they're great, slim and low profile seats (nicer for smaller cars IMO)

Yes we did the same thing for our 6 month old, it was one of his christmas presents. We got one at sams club for $90 and it is one that you are supposed to be able to use until he reaches 100 lbs. So pretty well the last car seat that he will have to have.

That's what I was figuring. I was looking at this
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Evenflo-Symphony-65-All-In-One-Convertible-Car-Seat-DLX-Beaufort/19414710
but I don't know that much about carseats. What did you use?

and I believe the AAP now recommends 2&30lbs, correct?

His feet reaching the end of the seat don't matter. You judge based off their head. When the top of his head is 1 inch or less from the top of the seat, then you need to move him to the next seat.
Rear facing is great, and law until he is one and twenty lbs, as the PP said. Although it's recommended to RF until at least 2.
If you have the money, the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 5-70 is a great seat, and SUPER safe. It also RF until 45 pounds, and FF until 70 pounds. My SIL has this one, and it's the one we'll be getting for DS within the next month or so.

I have no advice, but awww. My 11 month old is 15lbs and 26 inches lol we just went yesterday to install her big rf seat and they refused to cause she was so small , said she was better off to wait till she got ff weight and age then ff her, igh I am still mad over that.
Anyways. I would switch over right now, just dont buy the safety first big ass seats, they suck and dont fit in any cars.

So you have good experiences with this carseat? Is it a good size for a medium size car? Do your child find it comfy?

Yeah that one looks good. It looks alot slimmer than the one we got which would have been nice. His fits great in my suv but not so much in my hubbys ford focus, but were making it work.
