I had to sign a paper as well and wham they tested me...lol the bad part is I didn't smoke on a regular basis and it just happened that I did the one time then found out I was pregnant. The social worker asked me if I wanted to talk about my problem. I told her I don't think one positive test indicates I have a problem. It was craziness.

that is generally not their first step these days so don't worry.
at least here, the process of they do drug test,is to go do a home visit. if you aren't cooking meth or running a human trafficking ring there's really nothing too worry about. most states have a system like that since there are already way too many babies in foster care and they will want to give you a good chance at success.

If they take your baby, I would be deeply shocked. They usually do a home visit after you leave the hospital.

They took him for 2 weeks to make sure she was clean the whole time. if you think they might take the baby for whatever reason they usually give you the option to request a family member to take the baby before they're put in a temporary foster home. I know it's crappy!

I dont know, California is pretty well known for taking kids and asking questions later. I personally dont think they would take the baby either, atleast not right away, but I really wouldnt put it past them either... I guess it just depends on if you get a good case worker. I think most of them are reasonable, but I think it is like any other job where someone has power over someone else. Some people get carried away.
Also OP, just because they havent tested you yet doesnt mean they wont, and they generally dont tell you before they test. They just do it. Or atleast thats how it is done at my OBGYN. Good luck!

Not always. It depends on the state and the circumstances. Down in Florida family members have to pass a home study before being allowed to take a remanded child.

well she ended up being able to give her baby to her dad. they did come in and do a walkthrough to make sure it was a suitable place.

They will drug test if your doctor and/or any nurse or hospital faculty have reason to believe there is some kind of drug abuse going on. I wasn't drug tested, but my friend was and her son is not in her custody for him being positive on thc. Bs I know but it can happen. Do u have your card?

It's always a friend who gets their child taken, never a poster. My oldest was positive for thc. DCF was called. DCF investigated. DCF did jack smurf NOTHING.

Srsly, I hate when people refer back to experiences their friends had unless the story is actually realistic.  

I was tested. I smoked up until the end of my second trimester and in my third I had a few shotgun hits. I came back negative. As much as I hate using "friend" experiences lol.. I will say a friend of mine came out positive around the same time. They didn't take her baby, they simply visited her at her house - she let them come in and check things out and then the whole ordeal was over.

My last pregnancy was a home birth so I just smoked the whole way through. My midwife isn't a complete bitch who just drug tests for the smurf of it and I trusted her.

I think a lot of people make up stories who don't know how the system actually works just to scare people.
