re: Marijuana & Delivery?

I have my medicinal marijuana card (I have had severe degenerative arthritis since I was 8 and I get muscle spasms) and use my vaporizer still when necessary. It also did wonders when I had morning sickness.
If I could I would smoke through labor lol...I'm a very high anxiety person and it calms me so much.
From what I have heard, they only drug test your baby if they have reason to believe your baby may be under influence at birth. I guess perhaps if you where using hard core drugs and your baby came out lathargic or suffering symptoms of withdrawal. Could be wrong but its what I have heard.

Yes my SO is going to give baby his first bath, My SO is so excited :]<3 I'm so happy with my little family. If they did drug test and they did take him how long do you think they'd take him for just a couple hours right? My aunt was able to go home with her baby even though she had CPS called. I mean breaking up a family over a little marijuana is quite cruel and heart breaking. People who smoke marijuana the babys always come out healthy and normal.

You can?? I didnt know you could request that. I would love to give my little guy his first bath. It seems so traumatizing when the nurses do it lol.

When I had my second baby in 2006, I was living in CA. I was drug tested throughout my pregnancy. I had one positive test at 10 weeks because I didn't know I was pregnant. When I delivered they tested her again and social services came and talked with me before I was discharged. I was informed that it would be turned over to CPS because I had a positive test and if CPS wanted to pursue it I would hear from them but nothing ever came of it.


Edit: I was in Sacramento, not sure if it makes a difference.

You can request anything you want for the most part (within reason, of course.) With my second they just wiped the blood and vernix off most of her body so she would be easier to hold. I gave her the first bath and other than slapping a diaper on her nobody on the medical staff changed her diaper.

I was really bent on not having our opportunity to bond interfered with too much. I plan to request the same again, especially since I KNOW I'm having a repeat c-section. They will also need my husband's approval before doing ANYTHING to her, especially since we plan to delay vaccinations and all that good stuff.

I'm in Sacramento Ca, and they dont test you unless they are suspicious of you here. My friend smoked cigs and weed with hers, and they never tested her or the baby. That being said my OB drug tests me and I had to sign a waiver saying that if I ever came back dirty I would have to enter rehab, or that they would no longer see me... Also no judgement, but if your going to use pot, can you take the edibles, or use a vaporizor? I'm not saying weed itself is bad for your baby, because I really dont know, but smoke is bad. Idk maybe you already do, but I just wanted to throw it out there

It's so rare that CPS gets involved over marijuana these days. I know in Florida they shrug off marijuana cases.

And so they should. Crack, heroin, and meth are all way more serious when it comes to little ones having it in their system.

Honestly I think it was a scare tactic. I can't see CPS wasting their time over one positive test.

Agreed.
I hear people say "it's so selfish!“ "You're horrible!“ and "You deserve to have your kid taken away!“ and all I can do is shake my head. There's no research that says it's bad (beyond the smoke itself because it increases your CO2 levels) and some research to suggest that it's quite beneficial to mum and baby.

The funny thing is all the mainstream research on drug testing newborns is focused on heroin, cocaine, meth and designer drugs. Gee I wonder why

Well, the hospital is required by law to report it. It's up to CPS whether they feel that it needs to be investigated. Nine times out of ten, they have bigger fish to fry and won't even bother. It's actually nice to see that even government agencies are looking at marijuana in a new light.

Hell yeah I know some stupid ass lady that smoked heroine and drank shots of alchohol during her pregnancy they didn't take her baby, my sister in law went to visit her and the baby at the hospital and she said the baby was gagging a lot. I can't believe they didn't test her now she seriously doesn't deserve to keep her baby. Poor little girl.

I signed a paper for my OBGYN or whatever it's called saying I will at anytime agree to a drug test, yet they never tested me not once. I did tell them I use to smoke though but I told them once I knew I was pregnant I quit, everyone in the office likes me lol. & a midwife there will deliver my baby most likely.

My sister-in law smokes MJ at night to help her sleep she says. But she did not know that the urine samples the dr's office collects from her do random drug testing. Some states will do that to insure the well being of the baby at delivery. I am originaly from CA and a cousin of mine had her baby taken from her at the hospital because of MJ use. Although it was a few yrs ago im not sure what they do now.

GOD all these posts about weed and I haven't smoked in almost a year! I'm really wantin some right now ugh lol....I'd be baked right now if my own sister wasn't dead-set on getting my baby taken from me.
