Toyota Highlander

I guess I'm not sure what I am asking, but if you have this vehicle...do you have the car seats on the sides or in the middle? I don't see LATCH in the middle so his seat is on the side FF, but we're looking to flip back to RF and move it to the middle. Would it be OK to use a seat belt and RF it with that locking clip? It won't fit RF in the side seat unless we scoot seats up which isn't possible.

You only need the locking clip if your vehicle's belts don't lock on their own.
And Highlanders are pretty new vehicles so I'm sure they do.

You can not borrow LATCH from the outside positions, just an fyi.

Right. And I don't see LATCH in the middle. Thus why I was asking about seat belt in the middle. How do I know if seat belt locks?

I answered your question, lol. 

You'll know if it locks by pulling the seat belt all the way out. You should hear a "click". Try letting it loose. If it locks and doesn't retract, then you don't need a locking clip. If it retracts, try again(just to try a 2nd time). If it retracts again, use the clip.

If your car is fairly new it should definitely have them.

I do know someone with like a 2001 Malibu though, and her seatbelts don't lock so it's always best to check.

Looks like our seat belts lock once fully pulled out and retracted which means no locking clip is needed. Anyways, I got a more secure fit putting seat on side rear facing, but I assume rear facing is safer even if it does have to be on the side so that's what we're going to do for a little bit longer and see how he does. He's only 29 pounds so I guess we'll get another 6 months or so rear facing if we try.
