You don't have too be artistic. :-)
You could just paint blobs to keep your mind away from things or even just draw stars.

I had setup a Pinterest account with birth craft ideas for my HB. Out of all of the books I've read that is hands down my most favorite. and I've read a LOT of books. It also talks a lot about celebrating the mother and stepping away from the cultural norms of birth in America.

Alright I'm gonna see if I can find it again, thanks!

Nice, I had a 4.5 hr labor, then a 3 hr labor. My home birth labor was 20 mins.

Wow. That will make a difference, I'm sure. I went into labor at 2 cm.

You'll love it. :-)
Definitely helped me to rest easier. The lady who does the Birthing From Within "classes" here had said a lot of women like to cut out pictures from magazines that they think are pretty when they aren't really sure about crafts and then they just glue them onto cardboard and make a birth collage. :-)

I wish I could have a labor like that, I would definitely do a home birth.

With three kids I can't get to classes either (this will be my first home birth, but my third pain-med-free birth) instead I read, and re-read to prepare. My go to book is Ina May's guide to childbirth, I love re reading the birth stories in the first half. Just to get my mind into the right place.

Not a bad idea, I've read that book dozens of times. I think I'm subconciously trying to not read stuff because that makes it real that I have to do it again, lol.

It was nice, but it seems like the shorter they got the more painful they were :-\ Like it all just hits you all at once. Kinda felt like i was blindfolded.

And i think it caused some bonding issues with that baby too. For like a week I was just in shock and kept being like "is it really over? is he really here?" It's kind of hard to explain lol.

I did enjoy my longer labors a bit more though.

Yes, with my 1st son I was fully dilated in 2 hours, the other 2 hours were pushing. Those 2 hours were hell. I was in shock afterwards for weeks as well.

Second labor was twice as long and soooo much easier.

My last labour I went from 1cm- 10 in just over an hour (after 6 hours of cervadil induced contractions to start me off) and that last hour was intense! On the other hand my 4 hr labour was so much easier because I had gradual dilation through out.
