I also think people throw the term around too loosely. Pedophiles are interested in pre-pubescent children. A 20 year old that has consensual sex with their 16 year old partner is NOT a pedophile.

Pedophilia has almost always been frowned upon. It's been made respectable through marriage and teacher/student (as in Greece) but to have sex with a child outside of those realms has never been viewed favorably. Homosexuality, however, had been considered perfectly acceptable in quite a few cultures.

They may be born that way in a sense that they are attracted to children but in the end it is a choice to act on that attraction so no I have no sympathy for pedophiles and don't think anyone should. I know a few religious people who are lesbians or gay but because of their beliefs that being gay is wrong they never act on it even though it would hurt no one and is not illegal so comparing it to sexual orientation doesn't make me think twice.

Exactly.....not everyone who is molested becomes a pedophile but most pedophiles have some sexual trauma (molestation, rape, sexual abuse through exposure to things) in their past. You would have to victimize them again by tracking them like criminals when they were not responsible for someone hurting them.

And actually, after I think about 10 years old the term is hebephile. Still, an adult having sex with a 10 year old, though not technically paedophilia, is still all sorts of not alright

I was sexually abused for 13 years and I have never done that to someone else and I wouldn't even think about doing that. I agree that they need to be put down.

Not a pedo's are rapists. They don't all act on thier urges

I can understand some people are 'wired' wrong and they get suicide impulses, sadistic impulses and even pedophiloc impulses. Some times the brain is just a smurfed up place..but it is one thing to have impulse and another to act on them.

Their is help you can get before you decide to act on thing like this, people would rather you sought help and get it, than do such an act and destroy a child's life and then regret it.

Yeah, well, some do-and some just live fantasy lives as rapists.

The biggest flaw with that viewpoint is homosexuality involves two consenting adults but pedophilia involves one party who cannot legally consent.
