Is it possible for newborns to be scared of the dark ?

My son is 3 weeks old & ever since we brought him home he doesn't want to be in the dark. If we sleep without the tv on, or a candle lit he freaks out & screams until there's light. & he doesn't like to be alone. If he sees that my fiancé or I am not around he freaks out & cries. If he's in the dark without us he SCREAMS ! Idk if we just spoil him or if he really is scared. & I don't want to leave him alone if he is scared.

I always left a night light on in my daughters room.

Buy a night light. I'm not sure as he has been in complete darkness for the last 9 months

There's no such thing as a spoiled newborn, IMO.

I think it is possible and normal. When you think about it, they cant see very well anyways, and to go into total darkness with out understanding why sounds pretty scarey to me.

Maybe it's just that in the dark he can't see that you're there and thinks he's alone?

It's not that he's afraid of the dark. Its that he probably can't see you and that sends them into survival mode so to speak. Call for my mommy she protects me.

I wish I could find the dang article I read that put that into perspective lol. I'm extremely lucky with my kids. They all sleep great and have since being a baby. But I read that and it was like "a-ha!" lol
