When I took A&P we just had one big textbook and then the lab book where you could rip the pages out and turn them in.

Yea, we just had one book for each class for A&P.
Even now that I'm in my core theory classes for Respiratory we still only use one book for lec. and one book for lab.
Workbooks are only recommended but not required.
