Getting induced with my first! Advice?

posted 10th Jan
So this is my first baby. I am currently 37 weeks and my doctor told me if I don't have my baby by next week they are going to induce me the upcoming Monday. I will be 39 weeks so I am not having her super early. I have read a little bit about induction but want advice from women that have actually been through it. Anything helps! Thanks!

Why are you getting induced? if there's no medical reason for it i wouldn't do it.

If you don't have specific medical reason to be induced I wouldn't let your dr do it. Induction is painful.

It all depends on your bishop score. The likelihood of you have a successful induction can be estimated by how effaced, dilated, and the babes position in your pelvis.

I would research that first before going ahead with it.

You can tell your OB no if there isn't a medical reason for it. Let that baby cook.

Well first of all I would ask NOT to be induced at all costs and let LO come naturally if at all possible.

Well I mean, in her defense, labor in general is painful.. Soo. Lol

My induction wasn't ANY more painful, to me, then my non induced labor.

Say no to inductions unless you have to have one. They can increase your chances for a c-section and even cause extra stress on the baby.

I had pre-e and gestational diabetes and my Dr told me i had to be induced, i didn't know it till after that i could have said no because i wasn't at high risk at the time. The induction caused my blood pressure to skyrocket and ii was rushed back for an emergency c-section.chances are if i were to go another week i may have still had to be induced, but the c-section could have been avoided if i had been more informed and waited another week for my body to do it naturally.

Lol of course! I just meant that it was painful quicker. I would have much rather went into labor naturally myself but it was a risky option

i was induced at 42 weeks with my first one. what i can tell you is that induction puts you directly into painful, active labor so your body has zero time to progress through the slow early labor for you to get used to it. i would never be induced again. i was in so much pain. there was no way to breathe through it. i had to get demerol about half an hour after they started the drip and broke my water.

Lol.

I loved my induction with my youngest. But I also knew what to expect with labor in general. I was put on a really low drip of pit. I think it was like... 3 or 4. And it kick started it.

Ive never heard of a bishop score. Sounds interesting, i might just have to read up on it. (Although i still wouldnt get an induction unless necessary)

1. Why are you being induced? Unless there is a valid medical reason for being induced I would just refuse it.
2. Due dates are only an estimation and it could be two weeks off, you actually be inducing at 37 weeks.
3. Induction before you've even reached your due date puts you at extremely high risk of needing a c-section, which is major adominal surgery and is a much more difficult recovery.
4. The drugs they use to induce you make your contractions a lot more intense and painful than a natural labor.
