If you had short cervix?

So at my appt. today my doctor wants me to go in & have an ultrasound to measure my cervix next week to make sure its not short. Cuz I had my son 8 weeks early! (I might also get to see gender. YAY!!) but anyways.. If I have a short cervix what does that mean and what will I expect?

If it is short they will want to watch you super close to make sure you don't start to funnel and dilate. You may need a stitch in your cervix, called a cerclage and possibly bedrest if it starts to look like that is happening.

If you ever start to get a feelings of pressure in your pelvic area, almost like constipation, call your OB right away. I ignored that feeling having no idea it could be due to my cervix and it turned out it was.

First paragraph pretty much sums it up. I have a shortened cervix and one doc wanted a cerclage but the new doc I had said I didn't need one. I ended up not getting one and was just fine the whole pregnancy. I was on pelvic rest (no sex) and could not excercise at all except for walking.

it all depends.. if your cervix keeps shortening they may decide to give you a cerclage depending how far along you are.. i had a emergency one at 18 weeks, they were going to do it earlier but for whatever reason they didnt lol if they dont do a cerclage they may just keep a very good eye on it.

alright!   I just turned 17 weeks today. I think what they are doing is just ruling out everything that might have caused my son to come early. I hope it aint short. One that scares me & to getting that cerclage scares me too

totally get that girlie. Cerclage isn't too bad.. it's a bit uncomfortable when the baby gets bigger though.. but even the removal without pain meds wasn't bad. hopefully it was just one of those random things that caused your son to go early and it won't happen this time.. my mom had my sister 6-8 wks early (can't remember exactly) and it was due to a bacterial infection down stairs.

I have a short cervix but it was too late in PG for me to get a cerclage. I got steroid shots to mature the baby's lungs and progesterone to take instead.

yeah I have heard of that before! I really think sex is what caused. My Bd hits my cervix alot in certain positions. that night we had sex and he hit it pretty hard.. I cried it was that bad! (of course he didnt mean too) the next day I was in labor. Doc just told me no sex!!

I had those steroids shot when I was in labor with my son! & I just started the 17p shots last week.. Doing them till im 36 weeks!
