Gallbladder and Pregnancy

posted 10th Jan
I had a gallbladder attack on Sat night and an ultrasound on Tuesday confirmed that I have a gallstone. My doctor is setting me up with an appt to talk to a general surgeon about getting it removed sometime after baby is born. I had one other attack before, when I was pregnant with my son. However, at that time, my doctor told me that it was just pressure from the baby growing and pushing organs up. She told me to take pepcid AC and gas x if it happened again, but fortunately it did not.

Im curious if this is only a pregnancy thing for me (it was 3 years between pregnancies and attacks) or if I will really need my gallbladder taken out. Has anyone else experienced this?

If you keep having attacks and you have a gallstone you are probably going to need it taken out. The attacks will get more often the worse it gets. Get an u/s on it as soon as you can. Just had mine taken out last Friday due to the severity of my attacks and how often, I starting getting them over the summer.... They would come and be gone the next morning. A month later it happened again. And about 2 weeks ago I had an attack on a Thursday and the pain never went away fully, and I had a attack again early fri and my DH took me to the hospital and I had it taken out. Apparently it was infected and full of stones.

The nurses were talking about how I got them while i was in prep for the OR and asked if I had a kid, saying yes they were like "that'll do it"... Oh awesome.

Almost a week without my gallbladder I feel great no problems and no more pain from those damn attacks!! It's a relief a easy surgery, I was out THE SAME DAY! And a week later almost I'm up and moving around fine!

They did an ultrasound found a stone. I was hoping that its just a pregnancy thing for me since I was pregnant the two times it happened and there was a 3 year break between the attacks.

How was the recovery for the surgery? Im terrified of surgery so Im really not looking forward to it. Im stuck to a low fat diet until baby is born but its not even been a week and Im already tired of it. I want good food! But Im scared of another attack

Ive heard that you have to go poo after you eat, every time. Is that true with you? Or is it so worth it that it doesnt matter? lol

Surgery was a breeze. I'm a wimp and when they told me I called my mom who lives in Texas crying lol! I went down and they knocked me out, woke up 2 hours later (one hour in recovery) the hardest thing was waking up! I have 4 incisions two on the gallbladder side, one under the belly button, and one on my left side (camera slot lol). I had it done by lap (idk how to spell the full way) which is done where the blow your tummy up with gas and use a camera, small cuts instead of one big one. I went home at 7.30 (surgery at 12) you're just gonna want to sleep the whole time.
No pain at all, they gave me delodid (sp?) which was very strong which also took the pain away from my attack when I went in at 330 with an attack. I woke up the next morning, felt fine....until I tried to move and oommggg day 1 sucks, yes it hurts your whole tummy....you'll need help getting out of bed and using stairs. I'm on day 6 and I feel great, barely sore (hurts to touch the incisions by pressing)
It's an easy recovery after the first few days, I had my awesome DH help me for the first few days which makes it easy. They gave me Percs, which helped. I'll be back to work Monday! No big deal.
And no I haven't had to run to the bathroom once! I heard that too and it didn't happen to me.... No guarantees though! X( I was more scared I wasn't it took a day and a half to start working I drank some Epsom salt (gross, but all I had) and I've been Normal ever since. And I had the low fat crap too for a week it's hard! Good luck with that =[ .

Yep I eat anything I want. I can't eat healthy all the time! Lol you'll want to day 1 & 2 I had Cheerios and a strawberry banana smoothie day 1... They said a lot of fruit and whole grain. I would def say the first 2 days are a bitch, and then after you're in a bit of pain but.... Bearable so. =] glad I helped wish I had some time between official diagnosis and surgery to talk to someone. I wouldn't have been so scared. Good luck!
