Weird question/Mirena removal.

posted 10th Jan
So I have an appt. tomorrow morning to remove my mirena. I just thought of this and was wondering if it is possible.....

Say I have unprotected sex tonight, and I get my mirena removed tomorrow at 10 am would it be a likely possibility I could get pregnant like that? Yes I know, there is always a chance even on BC but I'm just wondering if it's likely. I know sperm can live a few days.

Also I am starting a BC pill tomorrow and I know that I won't be protected with that for a few weeks.

I had a blood pregnancy test done a couple days before I got mine removed and was told not to have sex until after it was removed and to use protection after that unless I wanted to get pregnant. And even the she said to wait one cycle.

I'm no help but i'm sure it can & has happened. I guess it depends on how fertile you are??
ex. I wouldn't have to worry bc i'm not that lucky. Good luck with the removal. I had to have mine surgically removed.

There is a possibility that you could get pregnant for the fact that you're starting the pill once you get it taken out. My doctor told me for my pill, that it would take a week to be effective when I had my Mirena taken out. So, that means there is no protection for a week.

Depending on how long you had the Mirena and how thin the lining of your uterus is, the embryo would have trouble implanting if you ovulated after it was removed.

There are just so many factors that come in to play it's almost like a game of Russian Roullette. To be safe, I'd say either withhold from having sex or use a condom. I spotted a little after having Mirena removed and I didn't want to have sex, so that was a little motivation for me.

Thanks ladies. I was just wondering out of curiosity.

I won't have sex tonight, and after I get it removed we'll use condoms for the first cycle. I do NOT want another baby atm.

Ugh, I am so nervous about that. I have had it for 4 years, and I can't wait to get it out of me, but I'm so scared it's going to hurt. Why did you have to get yours surgically removed??

I was worried about having to get surgery too. But to my surprise it didn't hurt. I barely felt anything.

Bc they couldn't "find" the strings. I was having abdominal pain after 6 months of placement. over 2 yrs later still no viable pregnancy.   but also found last Oct I had endo.
