Cloth issues~ Ammonia & Funk Rock??

posted 10th Jan
MMKay so we have been having ammonia problems in LO's diapers for quite some time now. I even stopped using the cloth for a while because her diapers were so ammonia-fied that they were giving her rashes that BLISTERED. I had to take her to the doc and get a special cream.
I stripped her diapers VERY WELL and then ordered Rockin Green's ammonia bouncer called Funk Rock, and have done several things to try to get it to work, and take the ammonia OUT!!~
I tried soaking the diapers in hot water in the tub overnight with a tablespoon of FR, and I have also tried using the FR in the initial rinse of my wash, as well as in the hot wash. (Followed by another hot wash with detergent)

The ammonia is still there.
Anyone have any luck with Funk Rock??
Cuz I'm not.

I've also changed the way I store the dirty diapers, instead of in a wet bag I keep them in the open air in a laundry basket on top of the dryer. I have also tried airing the diapers out...rinsing in vinegar, soaking in vinegar...etc.

I have also tried using my prefolds inside of my pockets instead of inserts, ammonia still there.

I'm about to have to throw all of my damn diapers away and restock my stash, which IDK when that is going to be able to happen because I have NO MONEY. So I might just have to buy a whole big set of prefolds and just stick with those, instead of pockets. Because I know the inserts especially if they are synthetic fabric holds the ammonia and build up a lot better than say organic cotton or hemp.

I'm getting very very frustrated with this and I really don't want to have to throw my diapers away.
Should I keep trying to use the Funk Rock for a little longer?
I feel like I have been using it long enough now so it SHOULD be working...but its not.

My friend was just dealing with this problem. Did you try to boil the diapers? It got rid of the issue for her!

No not yet but can you boil the PUL? Cuz the ammonia is on the diapers themselves as well, not just the inserts and prefolds. I don't really think boiling PUL would be a good idea, but ....?

Rocking green products suck. They make everything worse.

Boil everything that isn't oil and doesn't have snaps/Velcro. For everything that can't be boiled do this

Rinse with cold water.
Do a hot wash with 1/4 cup vinegar,
Then anothr hot was with 1/4 cup baking soda.

Then rinse like mad. I'm talking like, 6-10 rinses. I do warm when i rinse

No, you should not boil PUL. You might want to rinse your diapers after every use, even just pee ones. Have you tried baking soda?

Kay so I've heard baking soda twice. I have never tried that.
Would I use that on everything? How would I use it?

How often do you use it?
Just for this purpose or regularly?
How much?

You can use it every wash. I mainly use it to strip, but if I start to notice a smell, I throw it in a regular cycle.

I use 1/4 cup. Idk last night I just kind of dumped it in there.lol

Rockin' green ruined our diapers and made her blistering problems worse.

I'm going to switch to country save.

I use baking soda every wash. I do a prerinse with baking soda, hot wash with a tiny amount of arm and hammer detergent (our normal detergent), hot rinse with vinegar, then sometimes another hot rinse, and a cold rinse.

I did start having issues recently because her older brother has been using a diaper at night, and I think his urine is just too strong. We had to designate certain diapers just to him.
