J/K friends

My dd almost broke my heart last night asking me why people change friends and why this boy in her class doesn't like her anymore. She said he was mean and called her names (stupid) for not catching a ball. He was one of the first friends she made at school and after a couple weeks I do remember her telling me that he didn't want to play with her anymore. At that point I just told her to make some other friends which she did, and I hadn't heard anything about this boy since. But last night she was crying about it, maybe more so because he called her names. How would you handle this? What advice would you give your child?

Ugh that's so sad  I wish I could help but my son has been through this. I never know how to help him.:/

I would just say people come and go in our lives. She'll make so many friends in her lifetime, that kind of stuff. Idk if there is any other way to explain it really.

Those are good points, I just didn't know what to say. I said something like if he is mean just don't talk to him or try to play with him because no one wants to be friends with someone mean. Then she asked if she could be mean back to him! I said no of course, I told her to just walk away and go play with her other friends. But she still kept asking why, why do people change friends, why doesn't he like me? I kept saying I didn't know but maybe ask him? Now I'm regretting it because I'm worried sick he is going to be mean again to her. It's just so sad, I hate that she is hurting or thinking she is not friend worthy, ya know!

New territory for sure, took me by surprise... it was so sad  

"i know you are but what am i?" .. that should be her response to everything he says to her lol. The kid will get annoyed after awhile and stop. She needs to be strong. Bullies stray away from kids who fight back and stick up for themselves. I hate how cruel kids can be =(

It definitely is a tough situation! How old is she any way? Does she know about bullys and that people can be hurtful? Maybe its time to start bringing that up so it isn't such a shock to her and then she thinks there is something wrong with her ya know? Kids suck sometimes!

Oh man shes still a baby :-( My son will be 5 in June. I cant even imagine having to talk to him about that. Yep I would definitely tell her about bullies and that if someone is being mean to tell the teacher. Good luck!
