what is WIC and Medicaid?

I see them in so many people's post and I'm so lost on what WIC and Medicaid is, thanks in advance! I just don't like feeling lost! lol

It is state assistance.

It's state assitance and medicaid is insurance.

medicade is free helath insuranse for you and baby from the government.
WIC is checks for food to keep you fat and healthy while your prego and after the baby comes they give you formula etc...
both are only for low income families.

Medicaid/medi-Cal is health insurance for very low income families...in california(medi-cal) it is for those at or below 200% of the poverty line for their family size...Wic is food and nutrition assistance for low income and traditionally it is for those at or below 185% of the poverty line for their family size.

WIC stands for Women, Infants, Children and is (like the other ladies said) state assistance for pregnant women and women with children under the age of five. If you qualify (based on income) you get coupons for certain foods, formula, etc.

Medicaid is "free" (paid by taxes..) health insurance, eligibilty also based on income. Also referred to as MA. (Med. asst.)

WIC is Womens Infants and Children I think.. its like.. a program or something and they help you out if you're elegible....

Medicaid is a state insurance.. again if you're eligible.. (sp?)

i have medicaid and haven't applied for WIC (which I should) but medicaid paid for everything for the delivery..

wic is for women infants children.. they give you carrots milk etc.and formula if your Bottle feeding .
and medicaid- is medical assistance

You're automatically eligible for WIC if you're on Medicaid.. (I get both) It's definitely worth it, you should go sign up! I didn't get around to it til Robert was like a month old, I wish I would have gone when I was preg! I breastfeed so I get milk, cheese, peanut butter, carrots, juice, cereal, and some more stuff that I can't think of off the top of my head. But it's really helpful.

Im on medicaid and im not eligable for WIC
BUT that could be because, I got on medicaid when I was still living at home, and it doesn't "expire" until september.

and now i live with my husband..so that could be why. I tried to get WIC and we didn't qualify.

i live in michigan i live with my mom, and they gave me wic because i have medicaide, i dont get it but my daughter does, and only because we have medicaide so yes, they told me if i have medicaide we automatcially get wic if we try for it

So it must be a Michigan thing then. The automatic eligibility that is.

I got wic automatically because I was eligable for medicaide...My medicaide got cancelled because hubby got a new job making too much money(by a couple hundred dollars per month) but wic never cancelled me.
