Sleeping on belly?

posted 10th Jan
Do any moms let there babies (2 month or younger/older) sleep on their stomach? I know the whole sids lingo and I've tried and tried but LO will not sleep on his back unless he's in bed with me on the boob. I'm trying to get him into his crib and he will sleep from 9 til 4am if he's on his stomach. Otherwise it's my chest or in my bed with me. I didn't want to co sleep but like I said, he won't sleep and I have school on Monday, I need to get some sleep! Am I totally being risky and selfish? I check on him every 15 minutes and he's been sleeping on his tummy for a week now

At 2 months DS was rolling himself onto his stomach and his pedi said if he was rolling himself it was fine and not to keep rolling him back over. If he can lift his head he should be okay.

My mom reassures me he is ok since he can lift his head really well, and I slept on my stomach. My nurse just gives me a lot of smurf for it

If he can't move his head around on his own(lifting & turning)then he shouldn't be on his stomach. Try his side. DS cosleeps with me & sleeps on his side but his back too

You should be okay. Make sure there is nothing in the crib that he could choke on or suffocate in(blanket, pillow, ect.).

Definitely! He's on a sheet with nothing else but a knitted blanket on his lower body below the shoulders.

My daughter was the same exact way and she had really strong neck control at around 3 weeks old so I let her sleep on her belly, she has always preferred that way of sleeping, she is now 10 months old and perfectly fine. I just made sure there was never anything in her crib at all that if she happened to move over she would get choked on. Also, she had acid reflux as an infant and I think that sleeping on her belly made it feel better, I am the same way and I sleep on my belly all the time.

I did and I think it would be okay for you to start now at this age. Just make sure there are no blankets in the crib. My son slept so much better on his tummy. That's actually the natural position that most babies choose to sleep in, they feel more secure.

My LO is the same, he grew out of wanting to sleep on my chest, he went straight into his cot on his tummy because that's the only way he would sleep.. He could lift his head and move it & I wouldn't change it any other way IMO because he would choke on his spew & I never slept lol.
I always got told do what's best for your LO & yourself.. :-)

My DD would sleep in 10-30 minute intervals when she was on her back when we brought her home from the hospital, but then would wake up screaming. We started putting her on her side but it never worked, she just ended up back on her back. Finally it was the tummy and she slept almost five hours straight after eating lol. Then again she was able to lift her head and turn it from day one when she was on her stomach, so I felt a little better doing it for her.

it was the only way my now 13 year old and now 9 year old would go to sleep. My LO now is the opposite, insists on sleeping on her back, or her side once in a while. Try putting to sleep on belly then rolling over to back once asleep, I never actually tried that myself but it might work :-)
