Should I be put out of work now?
posted 9th Jan
Last week at my 37 week appt, my doctor told me that women start going out of work at 38 weeks and that ill get disability for it. So I've been really considering it because I work at a daycare and I feel like its becoming too much on me, my day consists of:
Dealing with 8, 14-20 month olds
Putting out chairs for them all, putting them each in a chair
Getting food ready, then cleaning up after
Putting all the chairs away, doing all the dishes I do this 3 times a day
Lifting each one of them up to change them all, which is getting really hard and I do this like 5 times a day
Putting out all their cots, then picking them all up and putting them away
Constantly being up and down
Picking them up when they cry or get hurt
I'm so exhausted everyday and I feel stressed because I'm so tired, and my back hurts, and I have horrible heartburn and gas pains. It makes it very hard dealing with my jobs duties.
I have my 38 week appt tomorrow and I don't know if I should tell them that I'm ready to be done this week or if I should wait at least until next wed and try and stick it out. I want to be done so bad but part of me feels like ill be a failure for it. I'd also like to be done early so that I can have time to relax and rest before my baby comes, because I am not getting enough sleep at all, It takes me forever to fall asleep at night, I get about 4-5 hours and then get up to work from 8:45-5:45 everyday. I'm scared all this stress and tiredness is hurting my baby.

Do u pay for short term disability?

Hey, you live near me!
I'd say if you can afford to live on disability for a couple extra weeks (it pays crap), then go for it! Take it easy. There's no shame in that. I had my doctor take me out of work at 38 weeks because I work at a nursing home and didn't get a chance to sit down all day...my back and pelvis were killing me.

Do you have disability insurance? Do you have a maternity leave plan? Can you afford to be out of week?

Ill get paid disability for being out early and the 6-8 weeks afterwards, it's not as much as I make but I still get paid. And my SO will help me if I need it but I only have to pay for my car and school loan

Personally, I would work until you go into labor. Taking leave before the baby gets here gives you less time with them once they're born.

If you don't HAVE to work anymore..i'd say be done and relax a while before baby comes. Certainly doesnt make you a failure. I quit my job at 23 weeks. Sometime i wish i would have stuck it out a little while more..but I had an issue with a customer and it stressed me out so bad ..i know i needed to for my own mental health.

I thought it would give me less time, but it doesn't ill still get 6 weeks after, and I plan on taking some more time anyway, or finding a new job all together so I can be home with her during the day

Not true. You still get the 6-8 weeks after, regardless (depending on the type of birth).

My job just hands me the disability papers and I fill out a section, then my doctor and then my employer

I'm not sure what you mean I guess.
I had 12 weeks of leave, I could start taking it whenever I wanted.
