I've never taken out disability insurance, but it is offered through my job. So is it like extra time off, separate from FMLA??

Disability and FMLA are two different things.

Was it paid leave? I think I can apply for FMLA and get 12 weeks but only 6 weeks of those would be paid because of disability.
I never paid for disability insurance, my job just gave me a paper for it. I did the same thing when I had my tonsils out I got 2 weeks paid disability for being out of work

Depends on the job. Not all of them count disability leave as your FMLA leave.

It might be one of their benefits. I dont pay in so I suppose I dont get disability. But it's be freaking nice especially since I had to go on hospital bed rest   and since I cant take LO out until April due to her being a preemie (that's what the haopital recommends).

Honestly I would just go ahead and take off to relax. Working to 38 weeks is still a good accomplishment. If it's to hard then I'd say go for it. I went to school until 38 weeks and then I couldn't do it anymore. You won't be a failure mama!

Take it off   I have short term disability thru my work and I will prolly b doing the same! I get paid 6 wks off for regular delivery and 8wks off for c- section. I'm filling out the FMLA papers too for the full 12 wks but I prolly wont b taking all 12wks off due to finances   Relaxing before ur baby arrives sounds wonderful to me!!!

Yeah, I could take 12 weeks under FMLA if I wanted to...unfortunately, I can't afford to be out of work without pay for that long. In that case I probably would have waited out the extra 2 weeks...but since I'm only taking my 6 weeks of disability (and then probably a couple weeks of vacation time), I went out a couple weeks early since I got the same amount of time afterwards regardless.

I dont get disability or FMLA. You have to work a certain amt of hours in a yr to qualifty. I hate my job. lol.

ahh, I took 12 weeks.... I had several hours of vacation time saved up, so I had a little money coming in.

Now I'm thinking I might start taking out disability insurance if we go for number two!  

Well I talked to one of the nurses today and she said since I don't have any medical problems associated with pregnancy, it might not be covered but then she said they will work with me, so my next appt is Tuesday and she's going to have me talk to the doctor and have her sign disability papers. So I'm hoping ill be done with work next Wednesday

Luckily I'm part time and I'm only required to work two days a week...DH is working from home so we don't have to worry about daycare and we're currently living with my in-laws until we get back on our feet (he had lost his job a couple months ago). So I probably will only work my minimum 2 days for a while and not pick up extra time so I can be home with my babies.
