Discovering a pregnancy, despite slim odds

posted 9th Jan
First time post here in the BG.
I've recently found out I was pregnant. 5 weeks along. This pregnancy story unfortunately comes with little excitement and a hell of a lot of fear. As a 21 year old who has been in a relationship for 2 years now, the idea of having children has not been too far out of my mind, I'll admit I've caught a little bit of the baby fever. However, I had long ago accepted the fact that when the time came for me to have a baby, it wouldn't be through my own natural creation. I've struggled for years with ovarian cysts and endometriosis. The pain, the puking and the long term infertility that would have me in and out of the gyno. After a corrective laporoscopy a few years ago, the cysts returned with a vengeance and I was put into a hormone induced menopause that lasted a year. Hot flashes at the bar when you're tossing back tequila, or crying hysterically the night before finals just because your pencil broke is NOT FUN, by the way.
I'd always accepted the cards I'd been dealt though and focused on the now rather than what was about a 10% chance of happening later. (I was told I'd need the help of hormones to make me fertile.)
Until now. I haven't had a period in well over a year, but I hadn't been feeling right. I had a biopsy coming up due to an irregular pap, and was expecting another surgery in 2 months. I got the test because I'd been throwing up regularly but there was no way of knowing by a missed period considering I hadn't had one in almost 2 years now. but there I was, in shock at the results that tell me I'm pregnant.
It's considered a high risk pregnancy, and I'm terrified the baby won't be okay.. If the little nugget is even okay now.
I have an appointment tomorrow with my regular OBGYN to start getting some answers, but I wanted to get some of it out.
Is shock a normal response to a pregnancy completely out of left field? What does 5 weeks even mean? Is that a time to be terrified of a miscarriage? What about my biopsy?
Thanks for the ears, baby gaga.

5 weeks means you conceived about 3 weeks ago..a baby can pass in utero at any point in pregnancy, but I heard after you get past 12 weeks and into your 2nd trimest the risks go down for miscarriage.
good luck!

Congratulations mama!!! What a miracle

Try not to stress. Stress does no good. Enjoy what you have created for as long as you can. Deal with things as they come!!! It'll all work out in the end.

First off congrats hun I'm so happy for you. 2nd yes its normal to be shocked I think I was shocked every time, I had 2 miscarriages myself and I thought after I lost the 2nd which was twins I wouldn't be able to carry but 4 months later got pregnant with my son and this will answer your other question yes I was terrified most of my pregnancy that I would lose him as well but didn't! Then I go pregnant with my daughter 22 months later and carried her to term even got to experinence my water breaking at home in the bed lol. Now I'm pregnant again this is my 3rd and I was shocked a third time I'm currently 17 wks and everything is going great I even have my gender ultrasound the 30th  . hope this answers any questions or even gives you hope even tho I haven't been through the same but I will pray that you have a smooth, stress free and problem free pregnancy. congrats and good luck hun.

Thanks for everyone's well wishes too. I'll admit, I'm freaking the smurf out. I know I shouldn't be stressing but I had no idea I could even have a chance of getting pregnant right now. I'm calming down though, knowing I'll have a lot of help early on.

First off.. Congratulations! I know how you feel. I have the same conditions you do and have had 2 laporoscopies. I was also told that it would be a slim chance to conceive and carry to term. But on Friday the 13th of Janurary 2012 I found out that I was indeed pregnant! I was so shocked and confused. Went 40 weeks and 6 days before having my son via c-section on September 19th at 12:12 am. Good luck to you and your new growing family!!!
