Biscuit and gravy from scratch recipe???

posted 9th Jan
I made biscuits and gravy last night or at least I tried from scratch, and I failed miserably. SO lied and said it was good even though I think we both know it sucked. Thankfully he lied because it would have shot my confidence down and I never would attempt to make it again lol. So do any of you mama's have a scratch recipe for biscuits and gravy?? I don't know where I went wrong especially on the biscuits, they came out hard as a rock and didn't even rise  !! Then well while I was trying to follow the rules someone else gave me for the gravy the pan sat on the stove burning because I was told to remove the meat? Now SO did come and rescue and help with the gravy but he didn't even tell me how he just finished them off. *Sigh*. Other then that I have made 4 successful meals in the last 5 nights   on my adventure of learning to cook, so maybe my child won't starve when he gets here lol!

I don't have specific measurements but here ya go

Fry either a lot of sausage or a fair amount of bacon to make 1/4 c grease.
Add some flour to it just enouh to make a paste (remove the meat ) and let it brown some and then add milk and wish it with some salt to taste. Let it cook so it thickens. Adjust the grease/milk/ flour/ salt until its to your liking.

You probably worked your biscuit dough too much. The more you mess with it the harder they will be. I would never remove the meat when making the gravy...my gravy is simple. Take a bit of flour (maybe a quarter cup)i never measure. Add seasoning. Italian, garlic salt, pepper. Whatever you want really. Add milk to it and stir up good. Make sure its a little runny. Add that to the meat and the drippings, don't drain the meat. Stir that a bit and get a large glass half full of water and fill the rest up with milk, or more milk than water, that's a preference of how creamy you want it. But I'd never do all milk. Slowly add that to you meat pan. Stir constantly. It'll look really thin but that's ok it'll thicken as it boils. Make sure you taste it throughout, you may need more spices. I'm a big taste tester, I'm always trying my food as I cook it

Mmmm I might would try something like that too  . I have never been one to cook, but for some reason lately I have had the biggest urge to just cook up a storm like actual meals for the first time that SO and I have been together for the last 15 months O.O. I however did though make some bangin chicken and dumplings   I was surprised with myself!!!
