EBF/ Gassy Baby

posted 9th Jan
My 4 week old cries at night and refuses to sleep when she is gassy. I'm asking her Pediatrician on Monday if I should try gripe water or gas drops. What foods should I avoid? What methods do you recommend to help relieve the gas?

She also hiccups A LOT. MIL said she used a tsp of water to stop her babies' hiccups, but I'm asking her Pediatrician first.

Stop eating/drinking anything with lactose milk, yogurt, etc. Stick to bland foods and you should be able to give baby gripe water just read the label it has the recommended age.

I used gas drops. But don't give baby water. Just give them bm if you feel they need liquid to stop te hiccups. Limit foods that would upset anyone tummy or give them gas. Spicy foods. Dairy, broccoli, etc.

Cut those out beans give you gas and it'll give her gas too. Any foods that will make you gassy you need to cut out.

I was going to ask her Pediatrician first. Her hiccuping doesn't affect her, and it doesn't bother me. Just MIL.

My grandmother is the same. She doesn't understand why parents no longer offer their babies bottles of water (with boiled or bottled water, not tap). I asked the dentist, and he recommended it to help rinse out bottle fed babies mouths at night. I wasn't planning on introducing water until she started solids, and I introduced a sippy cup.

Right. So much stuff has been researched since we were babies. Why not use it? People worked hard to find these things out haha

I read that it's a myth that spicy foods, carbonated foods, vegetables and whatnot can actually make your baby gassy or upset their tummy. The reasoning being that your milk takes its nutrients from your bloodstream, not directly from your GI tract. If anything, they might have a sensitivity to the protein in cow's milk.
