Colonoscopy

Has anyone had this done.... how was it?

I have had more than one. I have chron's disease so I am supposed to have them all the time....but Ive only had 2. They put you oit for them so it's not bad. BUT the prep is AWEFUL!!! You cant eat anything and you have to drink nasty stuff that makes you "clear out!" Make sure you dont eat anything the day before and the day of or they will not get a good view and you'll have to do it again.

That's okay. The way I posted it was meant to be a joke. Truthfully the procedure was not too bad but I hated having to fast all day and give myselfs enemas. After the procdure I had of enough built up gas that I thought I was going to be floating like the goodyear blimp.

I saw some places saying they don't put you out for it.... so you were out? I'd rather be out. I've had enough surgeries and procedures where I just want to be out!!! I dont want to be awake for that smurf... literally!

My sister had one and she said the drink made her so sick... crapping on the toilet and then threw up on the floor at the same time. I said "So am I going to be camping out upstairs?" (My bathroom is upstairs I sleep downstairs) she said "Yup, unless you want to crap yourself and puke everywhere."

I wasn't out for my first one in 1998. I was 16 years old. It hurt like a bitch. The sedation did nothing. So I never wanted to have another one. However when I had my most recent one, to make sure the disease was inactive so I could get pregnant, I was put out. It was a different hospital and also 2009. That is something you can ask about in your pre-op appointment. But yes you will basically live in your bathroom. I camped in the bathroom. I had a blanket, pillow and a good book in there.

Well this smurf sucks. Literally.

Ugh... I hate, HATE being sick. If I throw up Im going to cry I swear. I had the flu 2 years ago and basically slept in the bathroom from diarrhea and almost wanted to go to the ER. I hope I dont feel that eh, smurffy, but it sounds like I need to prepare to feel that crappy. Puns intended, lol.

But the last surgery I had I was put out and developed such a bad cough after that it sounded like I had pneumonia. The time before that I had an asthma attack coming out of anesthesia.

And if you are saying it can hurt during... good lord. What happened... did you say it hurt and there was nothing they could do?

Did you have a hospital stay after?

Ya there was nothing they could do. Basically they did not give me enough sedative so I could feel everything. I did not have to stay after. Just had to stay for a bit in recovery. This last one where I was put out I only had to stay until I was awake. I felt SOOO drunk though and slept all day when I got home.

One surgery Ive had. I had to stay overnight after being put out. The first one I didnt stay overnight but felt seriously sick and like you, slept all day. I was fighting the puking feeling.

Sooooo not looking forward to this!
