Hiring movers?
posted 9th Jan
We found out today that our offer was accepted and our brand new house will be finished February 20th!!!!!!!! It was already in the process of being built and now it's ours. I'm so excited.
We will probably end up moving in in early March. I'll be 6ish months pregnant and doctor has me on light duty (no lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk). I think I should hire a mover just to help my husband with the really heavy stuff. Have you ever hired a mover? Was it worth it? Around how much was it?
thanks in advance!

We moved when I was 8 months pregnant - BEST MONEY SPENT!! We went with a company that alot of people recommended in our area, they had great reviews. I cant remember the price but well worth it for sure.

When we bought our house we hired movers off of craig's list. They saif they'd get us completely moved in 4 hours for $300. We felt bad when 8 people showed up, knowing they wouldn't get much money at all. We paid them then extra though I don't remember how much now, and bought them pizza and beer when they were done.
My mom on the other hand, paid (well the company did) $10,000 to move them but they even packed, labeled, and mostly unpacked for them.

Oh man if you get the really good ones which are pretty expensive it is sooo worth it. My step-dad was in the Navy & so he didn't have to pay anything but it was sooooo worth it. They helped us pack & unpack. I think it was like 10k.

The last time I moved it was from NC to west TN and it cost us around 3k.

My last two moves have been with movers. Relocation and pregnant. Best thing ever. I think we spent like 2k and they packed everything. Took apart the furniture and put it back together (like the crib and our bed) That also included all the supplies such as boxes, tape, and such.

We hired professional movers that we found on Angie's List when we moved this July. I believe it cost us around $600 (about $100 an hour). Expensive, yes, but SO WORTH IT! They were licensed, bonded, and insured, which was great. We moved all of the boxes and light furniture on our own. They moved our washer, dryer, oven, sleeper sofa, love seat, sectional, ottoman, HUGE computer desk (which they had to disassemble and reassemble), big, pain in the ass bedframe, and our piano. They also hooked up all of our appliances. Doesn't seem like much, but it would have been horrible to do on our own in the 115 degree heat. They did a great job! We are definitely hiring people the next time we move!

Oh gosh, hire movers.... your poor hubby's back!
When I moved from Boston to Kansas 3yrs ago, I used those POD type thinks (you pack it up yourself, they ship it for you). Well, I tore/pulled a muscle in my back lifting a box --- and three years later, I STILL have problems & pain. It will not heal. I'd never had back problems before & I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
