Why is Female Genital Mutilation illegal, but circumscision is legal?


Is one more right or okay than the other? And why?



I have nothing but a gut feeling and feel that BOTH are wrong.

Good question   I don't like the thought of either.

Both are wrong IMO. My next boy will not get circ'd. And my girl wont get FGM.

Agreed. They are equal.

They are both wrong. Both genitals have the extra skin/folds in order to protect the genitalia. They have thousands of nerve endings. They serve a purpose.

Im still on the fence about circumscision...Im not sure how I feel about it. Im not sure that I would do it to my son.

What exactly do they mean by fgm?

We had a case here where a gyno here in aus cut off women's clits when they were getting surgery without their concent. That's terrible IMO. The women said they didn't feel female anymore and got no enjoyment from sex.

Probably because it's a lot easier to circ a boy. And more religions circ boys than genitally mutilate girls. Not to mention they refer to it as genital mutilation when done to a female. And the whole "it will stop you from getting AIDS!" bullsmurf that went around. And basic social stigma attached to it.

I guess if people had been doing female circumcision on a global scale for as long as they have been doing male circumcision, there might be less of a bias on it.

Doesn't mean it's right, just probably why it's legal. Neither of my boys are circ'd. I will just teach them to clean their junk. And wrap it.

While I am against both in doing research I learned that FGM poses severe health risks anywhere opposed to regular circumcision which although has risks some people consider to have benefits as well. I am against both but the risks alone are reasons that female mutilation is illegal. I am not saying their aren't posing health risks to male circ just that they are common and usually dont have severe effects. I personally consider it cosmetic all around and female FGM brutality and abuse all together.

There are different forms of it. But that would be one form of it.
