Quoting Kelly&Coralie:" FGM is exactly what you think the removal of the labia and clitoris for the purposes of making sex unpleasurable"

Ah, okay-see---labia removal, whatever. Clit removal seems pretty severe to me and to me, the equivalent of just chopping off a whole penis.

Every circ'ed guy I have ever um..."met" enjoyed sex just fine, whereas I don't think that'd be as true of someone with no clit.

Quoting Dr. Paradigm Shift:" Uhhhhhhmmm, I picked "other". I dunno, man. I'm not-anti-circ at all. Isn't FGM where they chop off the whole clit? "

FGM means any kind of cutting in the genital region

They normally take everything. The labia, the clit, and then they sew it up and poke holes to allow mentstrual blood to flow through

That sounds a lot more severe than the circs I've seen, and the circs my boys have.

I mean Im torn. Its like when you look at the description and the effects of both they are pretty similar....but there is no way I would ever do that to my daughter. However because circumscision is such a normal practice to me, part of me wants to argue they are different.

I don't know. I know a whole smurfload of circumcised dudes with excellent sex lives. I cant see my own personal sex life being great with no clit at all and a sewn up vag.

Snipped off labia? Whatever.

I personally am not going to have my son done. It's classed as plastic surgery here in aus (last time I checked)

I don't think it is wrong on the same scale as fgm is though.

I know a lot of people feel it's the same thing.

Uhhhm, maybe it is, but whatever. It's legal and it's what I opted for with all three of my sons.If they're pissed about it someday, then I guess I haven't given them enough in life to complain about.

I think most people base their opinions off of the original purposes for both procedures. For males, it was for cleanliness because back in the day (whatever day that may have been), soap wasn't readily available and dead skin cells, urine, and bacteria collected under the folds. FGM was specifically so women could not get pleasure from sex because that would make them impure.

I circ'd my sons and they both had issues so I probably wouldn't do it again.

actually it was originally started to prevent masturbation   yeaaaa...

I don't see them as the same thing, but I still think both are wrong & there is no benefit to doing it. there is a lot of misinformation about it in the U.S. though unfortunately

From what I understand, both Circ and FGM started off for religious reasons

then people got outraged that girls were having it done and it fell out of fashion. Then it was outlawed. (or perhaps it was outlawed first?)

And people are getting outraged about circ-ing of infant boys so perhaps it will soon be outlawed as well?

I really, really doubt that will happen in even the next 20 years.

I agree. I would like to see it outlawed unless the male consents, but I think that's a way away.

That completely depends on what you choose to believe. In the OT, Jews performed the circ on a specific day to encourage healing. There are multiple cleanliness rituals they followed. Ancient Egyptians were said to have done it to prove their pain endurance. Currently, it is said to prevent certain diseases. Very few scholars allude to antimasturbation except during the dark ages and sick psychiatrists between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Have you ever read that book about the Toot-n-Come On motel? I feel like that's what we are doing here.

I think there is a difference between the two. FGM is done for negative reasons- they do it for the purpose if removing pleasure.
