Baptism?

posted 5th Jun
Ok so I've never been a church person. I don't believe in all these religions. I don't really have or want to be apart of an of them. I do however believe there's a god but I choose not to have a reigion. I was never baptised as a baby and now as an adult I don't want to be. Everyone is telling me I have to get baptised in order for my baby to get baptised but if I don'y believe in the whole baptism thing then why should I? And I know everyone will give me lectures about how I should get the baby baptised but it's my baby and I should be able to do what I want. Just because everyone says you should get baptised doesn't mean I absolutly have to especially when I don't even believe in that...... I just want to know what ya'll think about this subject.......And does anyone feel the same way?

No!I believe a baby should be baptised but I don't think it's a big issue! If you aren't a firm believer in religion than don't do it!

I was baptised non-denominational... i believe in God and Jesus, but church was never a place where i felt comfotable.. besides, the bible says Where 2 or more are gathered in my name, there i am also..."

Im going to let my kids decide if they want to be baptised... they say prayers and im raising them to belive in God...

my Step mom is a minister and she got so angry when I told them I wasn't going to baptize my children. I've asked so many people to show me one part in the Bible that shows infant baptism and no one can find anything. I want it to be my child's choice and I will support them 100% on whatever they decide. I have my beliefs but I want them to make the choice themselves, not because I made them.

Hmm I believe you can go to a non catholic/christian church and have your baby dedicated - then when it comes time for the child/adult to make their choice about religion they can be baptised in the religion they choose .

I'm not getting my baby basptized. I have decided that if he wants to be baptized into a certian religion one day, he can do that for himself when he is older.

you dont have to get baptised to get your baby baptised with all religions. and if you dont want to get baptised and dotn want your baby baptised that is your decision. there are a lot of churches that dont let kids get baptised until they are about 15 and choose for themselves to accept the religion. so dont fret about what others are saying. do what feels right for you.

I'm the same.  You don't NEED to get your baby baptized.  If you don't believe in it, it wouldn't make sense to do it.  And don't let anyone pressure you into it.  I'm not.

I dont believe babies SHOULD be baptised. bapstism is a choice one makes for themselves, and a baby cant make that choice.
i believe they should be dedicated to GOdthrough your church, but considering you dont go to church....i dont know how you would go about that. if you had your heart on baptising your baby, i dont think you need to be yourself, but im not an expert on that

I am not very religious and neither is my husband, and I don't have a church although I was baptised Lutheran at my grandma's church years ago. My hubby's family's church( where he was baptised) is in Venezuela and his family wants us to baptise the baby there...since it is a big deal to them and not to us, so, the next time we go to venezuela we will have our son baptised there to make his family happy. Does your SO(baby's dad) have a religion or a church? If so, why not baptise the baby with his religion?

That is what my mother did. She was going to baptize us as babies but decided to let us find god and decide on our own I was baptized as a teenager and it was my choice not something that was ever forced upon us or shoved down out throats.

My baby will be baptised Catholic, just as I and her father were.

If you don't believe in it, don't do it. And tell everybody else to keep their opinions to themselves, its not their child to raise.

Your child and your decision. Do what feels best to you. Don't allow others to impose their morals and values upon you.
