re: Baptism?

posted 5th Jun
Just wondering, why would you want to baptize your child if you don't believe in religion?

Igrew upcatholic so I had my son baptised catholic, my views have since changed however, and my daughter was just dedicated at our non-denominational church and no more will be done with Becca either... If they choose a denomination that they want to be baptised into then thats their choice IMO, just as I chose catholicism. However, unless you are in any way active in ANY church,I really don't see why it would be an issue at all. I mean you can teach them your beliefs w/o a baptism into any specific denomination or belief system.

yeah i was baptised catholic and havent went to a catholic church since i was in middle school. now my bf was raised lutheren, but hasnt went to church since he was in middle school either. but to me it asnt important which religion i was as long as i was comfortable with it, and it was important for him to be lutheren, so we baptised lylian lutheren, and now we attend church regularly. i dnt mind being lutheren now, it's kind of likea laid back catholic, so i fit in well

LOL Yeah, I was actually disillusioned by the burch in my early 20s and had fallen away altogther, but for all that Shane is the last person in the world you would suspect of being a deep believer (if not actual follower per se) he is actually very adamant about the kids belief system... I had no issues with it as the church we attended is unbelievable, but since we moved I have to find a new one.   I think the moral core and values is the biggest importance when teaching faith based beliefs.

I believein a baptism of the heart...

as in, it's what's in your heart concerning your relationship with God. Water and prayers don't really matter too much to me.

Your baby, your choice. I know how you feel. My grandma is always on my butt to go to church, but I don't feel close to God in church. I don't believe a lot of the stuff they feed into you in church. It feels like it takes all of the love out of believing in God and it's just fear mongering...I want my child to not fear God. I feel closer to God walking through nature or helping out a homeless person than sitting on a pew.
