Kids in the delivery room?
posted 9th Jan
I had an appointment today with my OB and he told me that our kids are welcome in the room if that's something we wanted to do. Ive never thought of it before. Now I have mixed feelings about it.
What is your opinion? Have you or would you have kids there?
My children will be 3 and 5 1/2.

If they were older yes. Like 10 and up. Young kids are needy and loud and don't know what's going on so no I wouldn't with little kids.

i probably wouldnt just cause she will be one 16 months and i wouldnt want her touching stuff or being a distration....also wanna enjoy the first little moments witht my newborn aside from w/e chaos goes on...my first delivery was a friggen gong show thanxs too her wanting to come right then and now

My 2 year old was there i had no other choice. She was scared for the actual delivery but she got over it and a year later still talks about it. It was nice having there as she calmed me down when I started to hurt really bad. On the other side it can be kinda chaotic if you have a long labor plus needing someone to watch them during delivery so they arent running around.

I think it depends on your child. I don't know about a hospital delivery room for a young child. If my daughter was older, I'd have her in the room with me at the birth center.. but right now she gets upset easily if she thinks I'm upset and since I might come across that in labor, I don't want her there. She's almost 2, and will be 27 months when the baby is due. But I could definitely see a five year old being included.

I would not. I would be afraid they would get scared. IMO they are too young.

I won't with DD. She is 3. I would scare the crap out of her. Her being there for the ultrasound scared her. She thought I was hurt and didn't understand what was going on.

My DD is 4 and she will most likely be in th delivery room. I prefer she not be but we might not have any one to watch her.

Awe! My daughter was so excited to see the baby! My dr talked to them and told them what we were looking at and asked them if they were excited.

No....
Lol I wouldn't want them scared when I was in labor with jade, my husband put me in shower before he took me to hosp I was in pain and it scared dean he was 3, when I was in labor with Maks jade freaked and started crying when she saw me I was crouched over my water had just broke, I couldnt even comfort her because I was crying too, my husband had to carry her away from me and she was screaming,
Even when they saw me in hosp after, they wer scared I was in the bed an didnt want to leave when they had to,
The delivery,is for me and my husband, with my 1st even I cidnt get go see him when he came out lol, but with my normal pregnancies its was a moment I wanted with my husband, the kids saw baby when baby was nice and clean,

I took my kids they were 2-3 and 3-4, they had their birthdays while I was pregnant, to every u/s. They liked going and seeing pictures of the babies (I had twins)3. But at 3 yrs 2 months and 4 yrs 2 months there was no way I would have let them in the L&D while I was delivering. At the u/s there were no IV's, blood, beeping machines, or drs in gowns and sterile hats.

It's different if you don't have the choice and have to. I would be sure to keep her at the head of the bed.

At that age I wouldn't. They will probably be a distraction to you, the dr, the nurses, ect. Plus seeing you in pain like that could be pretty traumatizing for a young child
