She was freaking out during the anatomy scan. She's a HUGE mommas girl and she didn't know what was happening. She kept asking me if I was hurt, and DH had to hold her so she wouldn't climb on me and that was making her even more upset. If we have another baby she might be old enough then, and it will be her choice then.

Mines are 5 and 6 so yeah I would. Thinking about it actually makes me want to bring them. My daughter alone would calm me down. She's so mature for her age and my son is so helpful. I wouldn't worry about them doing things they shouldn't. I think it would be nice. But I wouldn't want them to watch me push.

Yes, I would and we did. We just showed her videos of home water labors, since that is what we did with our second. Our oldest was two n' half years old, woke up just in time to see her sister being born. She was curious about it. Only time she expressed fear was after labor when her sister was crying, she would ask "is baby okay?" It took her a while to get use to her sister crying lol.

My labor was at home but my 3 year old was here the whole time and watched it all. :-)

She talks about it all the time and tells people "my brudder comed out of mamas bulba!" Hahaha, so embarassing.

It went really well though. We watched birth videos beforehand so I could make sure she would be prepared. She even held my hand in labor.

I think it really depends on the kids. I just gave birth on Monday 1-7-13 and had both my kids there the whole time. My 9 year old boy and a 6 year old girl. My daughter actually did better than my boy. DS didn't like seeing me in pain. Both kids enjoyed the experience and neither have said anything bad about it at all. They both think it was pretty neat. DS even got to cut the cord! However both my kids have been exposed to ALOT more medical stuff than the average child. DD has alot of chronic medical problems requiring tube feeding, surgeries, hospital stays, testing etc. Just to give you an idea, they really have seen and been through alot. I am sure it also helps that I had a really awesome doctor that knew DD wanted to be there (originally it was only going to be her, plans changed). When I was pushing things got a little scary with my BP being scary low, baby heart rate really low and alot of bleeding due to my placenta not releasing from the uterine wall and it tore. My doc kept us all calm and we really didn't even know how bad the situation was until the end. It was a wonderful experience for us and alot of it has to do with my kids not being new to medical stuff and having a wonderful doc!!
Also I didn't do anything to prepare them ahead of time other than explain that there would be pain and blood but that it was a good kind of pain and the blood wasn't hurting mommy or baby. We didn't watch videos or anything prior.
