protein allergy after pre milk

posted 9th Jan
So after reuniting with my mom recently I have learned that my sons milk protien allergy could have been because I had it my mothers other child and herself had it etc. but back then it was not diagnosed you just fed babies some oatmeal a lil bit early ...
any with my son I breast fed him the moment I was able to get out of bed to see him in the NICU and all was well but once I got my term milk and no longer had pre milk he started having symptoms of failure to thrive we learned he just needed elecare formula to fix the problem after he was properly diagnosed
well given my history I have recently learned I intend to keep a few elecare cans around since it may take a bit to get the script from the pedi for this next child and go thru all that again...however that being said I would like to give my second baby pre milk as well while in the NICU till I get full milk if the allergy shows up there go straight to elecare if not continue boob milk.....however I just dont know if its a waste of time and if this would make sense to a pedi even tho most NICU dr.s agree that if your NICU baby has to have a fortifier or be on formula elecare is actually better than neosure or neocare whichever brand you pick ....so I am just wondering if any of you ladies thought this was a smart plan of mine or mabe it would be safer to just go straight to elecare and not risk the allergy or is it better my child get some milk even if it ends up having to switch anyway....not a life and death question just would be nice to hear some feedback from mommas out there who have preemies with all births as I do and this only being my second and with all the what ifs in this equation some insight would be nice

Exactly what happened with my DD. She did fine with my colostrum, but as soon as my milk came in she was vomiting everything up and was diagnosed with FTT. I would give the colostrum with your next baby and even try your milk when it comes in. It's not definite that your next will have the allergy and it would be a shame to give up breast feeding if that's what you want.

I appreciate your advice but pre milk and colustrum are two diffrent things
colustrum is not milk
pre milk is a special kind of breast milk your body makes in response to early labor and its usually thinner and has different anitbodies in it than full term milk
but thanks for supporting what I am trying I do appreciate it

Are you sure it's an allergy to your breastmilk, and not dairy that you are eating? It's very possible that the issue exasperated with your full milk due to your LO being premature.

No cause while my LO was in the NICU my really awesome nurse while I was boarding there had me on this jamican vegan diet thru the hospital since I was friendly with staff and such to help with all that ...I am sure its probably jsut a healthy diet but I cant drink milk anyway I am intolerant ...my son still perks up to anyone with an accent from the islands its cute I am going to miss not having her this time around
