Procardia

posted 9th Jan
I was sent home from l&d with a procardia prescription. Has anyone taken this? What's it like? Did it help?

Are they using it for blood pressure or contractions? If it's for contractions - only a little bit, but I was only on it from 32 to 36 weeks. Before then I was on indocin which took care of everything pretty effectively.

I was on it for a few days in the hospital for contractions... it seemed to have no effect for me, so i was put on terbutiline, magnesium sulfate, indocin/indomethacin.. within a week period.. i was on terb. for a month 1/2 but my body became tolerant quickly and i had to go get shots and pills to help..

the only thing that helped a lot was mag, and it didn't help long..

It didn't help me. They had me on it in the hospital, and also had to have me on 2 or 3 different medications at the same time to stop the contractions. It made me feel like smurf, and lowered my blood pressure so much it could've killed me.

My biggest complaint with the procardia was that it made me feel horrible. Not everyone feels bad while taking it and it does work for a lot of people. They always start with procardia anyway when you go in for contractions.. followed by terb.. and then they go from there depending on what's happening. Hopefully it will at least cut down on how many times you have to go to L&D. It always slowed mine down but didn't stop them completely.

Hopefully it helps. They said if it didnt to go back in. And not to take it alone.
