4 weeks is way to young to let them cio and could actually be very dangerous to them at that age. newborns cry when they need something so please keep up what your doing and do whats best for your baby

It can be harmful for a baby to CIO!! I am very big on attachment parenting  DD never cries, yes she may learn that i will pick her up when she cries, but i would rather that than learn that no one comes when she cries. i want her needs to full filled the best that i can do.......good luck mama, stand your ground!

I chose the CIO method but def not that young. Babies can't be "spoiled" with being picked up until at least 6 weeks or older. I waited until DS was at least 6 months until fully enforcing CIO. We tested the waters around 5 1/2 months but surely didn't let him CIO until 6 months or older. Hopefully he will come around soon. Take him to baby's next dr appt and have him ask the dr the risks of doing it that young. Maybe he will understand if he has more than one person telling him that its no good. Good luck mama

Thank you guys! She started crying a minute ago and he went to her and picked her up after me having a BIG chat with him!!! Yay!!!
Hopefully this lasts!
He says that he is fed up with me reading things like this on the Internet and just do things on our own... Fair enough in some cases, yes, but not things like this.... He thinks I'm a 'know it all', I am not, I just research things to get a wider knowledge... Without me doing that we would have no clue!

Love this!!

People often act like babies aren't people. When we cry do we not want to feel loved by someone?

You felt that it wasn't right before u researched it. That's what people dedicate their lives to doing, research of early childhood development. Why wouldn't we utilize their knowledge and expertise when they've studied babies and brain development for years?

The age-old "My parents did it with me, and I turned out fine." is usually their go-to excuse.

I usually retort with "Yeah, well my grandmother took my dad home from the hospital at a day old, on her lap, with no seat belt, while smoking a cigarette, as did 99% of mom's around then. He turned out fine, so should I do that with my DD?"

Which is a true story, btw. When she told me I was just like

OMG my mom says that all the time ! I did this and that and this and that and this and it didn't kill you ahh she drives me crazy sometimes. She uses that excuse when she wants to do stuff with my daughter that I tell her the Dr says no.

I must be lucky my mom supports me and never uses the "I did this with you" excuse. Maybe it's cause she's a teacher so she understands the importance of research and keeping up with it. Idk.

My mom tried to use it then when my first was like 6 weeks she told me to give her water and when I said no it could kill her she thought I was bat smurf crazy. But instead of arguing she went home to look it up (to prove me wrong) of course in the process realizing i was 100% correct. She now never questions anything and even researches things. My grandmother is queen of "i did this with you/your mom/ect"

That is what my mother argues with me on. She constantly wants to give her water and I tell her no the Dr says no its bad for them. And she goes I gave you water and it didn't kill you it won't kill her. Almost every time I am around her she says about giving her water and I freak out.

My mom's a teacher and has her Master's in Early Childhood development.....she still insisted CIO was necessary and no one would ever want to babysit DD because she'd be a brat

I just told her when she's waking up with the kid, she can make the decisions.
