Diapers! Clothes for your newborn.
posted 9th Jan
DH and I are going to finish buying diapers and the essential clothes we will need this weekend. SOOOOOO excited!
How many boxes of diapers of each size should we have? I'm only going to buy a small pack of newborn diapers (DD only used a small pack and we'll buy more if we need too when the time comes). We have two boxes of size 2. Should we also get two boxes of size 1 and call it good on diapers to get us started?
Right now, we have a TON of 3 month size clothing but hardly any 0-3 months (one outfit, lol). I think we have enough newborn size (just a couple outfits, onesies, and sleepers). When I had my daughter, she was in newborn for less than a week and went straight to 0-3 month clothing. Essentially, how many of each clothing of 0-3 month should we buy this weekend? Am I making sense... Hm what mean is... "6 onesies, 6 sleepers, 6 pairs of pants, etc."
TIA

You can't really predict. My son was a BIG BOY when he was born then he got tiny for his age. We ended up with tons of extra size 1 then only a bit of extra 2s and switched to cloth right before we ran out of size 3 that we had bought. He's also 9 months and can wear most of his 3-6 clothes and barely getting into 6-9.

Dang! I know. It's hard to predict it. DD was big (8 lbs at 36 weeks) and always has been. At 9 months, she was in 18 month clothing. Lol. I think what I'm going to do with the diapers is just return one of the size 2 boxes for a size one that way I have one of each and we'll buy if we need more once DS is here.

It's really, really hard to say. Someone on here told me to have enough clothes to last your baby 2 weeks, which I think is a wonderful rule to live by. As far as diapers, I would just buy 1 box of 1's and 2's for now and put the rest away in a diaper fund or on gift cards.
A good example of how hard it is to say would be my first two.
My oldest wore preemie diapers for the first month, newborn until she was 2 months old and 1's until 6 months. At 1 year old, she still wore 3-6 month clothes (0-3 months in pants because she has short legs.) Pampers and Luvs fit her best. She was 6lb6oz, 19in long.
My second was in newborn diapers for only a few weeks. She was in 1's until 2 or 3 months old and 2's until around 6 or 7 months. She wore 3's well past her first birthday. She wore newborn clothes for a week or two, 0-3 months until 2 months, pretty much skipped 3-6 months, 6-12 months until she was 8 months old and 12-18 months until her first birthday. I cloth diapered her primarily, but in disposables Huggies gave the best fit. She was 5lb12oz 17inches

Just keep receipts for the clothes and dont cut tags and wash until they are in the size. My 11 month old just went to size 3 diapers. We primarily cloth but she still wears disposables at bed and when we travel. My oldest was in size 4 by time she was 1 and just flew through sizes 1 and 2. As for clothes both of mine worse newborn for about 6 weeks. My 11 month old wears an array of sizes. Some 3-6 month tops. Mostly 6-9 or 6-12. However in pants she needs a 12 months because she has long legs. My oldest was in 0-3 for a short time. Skipped 3-6 and went into 6-9. Was there for a few months then went to 12 for awhile. When she hit 18 months she was there for a year.

I'd say get enough for a week. Does that make sense? Like 7 onesies, 7 pajamas, 7 outfits.....all newborn size. Then go from there.
Diaper wise, I'd have 2 boxes of each. Two size 1, size 2, 3, etc.
I had a TON of newborn clothes (a lot were given to me from a friend) and I never thought DD would be in them for long. Since I heard from so many moms that babies aren't in newborn for long. Well, not DDs case. She was in premi clothes for about a month and newborn from about 2-3 months old.
You just never know. Just save receipts. I honestly wouldn't shop until your DS is here. That's what I'm doing. I'm waiting until he's here and then I'm going to do more clothes shopping. I have enough newborn (3 jammies, 4-5 onesies, a few outfits) that will get me through the hospital time (if he's in newborn) then if needed I'll go shopping once were home from the hospital. I have the same with 0-3, 3, 6, etc.
I'm going to wait until I know his size once he's here.

I don't have any newborn size diapers, we're expecting him to be big, but I have 2 boxes of size one, one box of size two, a big box of wipes, 4 newborn sleepers, one sleep gown, two sleep bags, three 0-3 sleepers, six 3-6 sleepers, two hoodies, a newborn and a 0-3, one newborn onesie, two newborn pants, nine 0-3 onesies, six 3 month onesies., four 3 month pants, 4 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of booties, 4 pairs of mittens, and 8 hats. ETA: I have a bunch of bigger stuff too, but it's put away, I only have the stuff I think I'll need for the first few months in his drawers.
