I would have made him sell it and use that money for yours haha!!! At least yours was better

He didn't "propose." He was just basically saying we've been together for awhile and his intentions are to marry me and he wants the world to know he has a future with me in it. He has seriousness to what he said, but it was no where near a proposal. He is a VERY sensitive, sentimental person... so I know if/when he does ever propose, he will make sure it's super special!

A ring does not equal engagement to me nor does making a huge proposal. My husband and I basically just had a mutual proposal. He told me he wished we could get married already, so I told him if he proposes then we will. He proposed on the spot, no ring, no fancy proposal, but we were both crying and happy. He got a $70 ring at K-mart later with his mom only because his sisters wouldn't let it go. At least he knew not to get me a diamond lol, mine is a sapphire.

I also agree with the poster who talked about unless you are planning a wedding you aren't really engaged. We were engaged for two years, waiting to graduate college, but we were also saving a $1000 for wedding. I am even hearing of eight year olds "getting engaged" now days.

If he hasn't proposed & asked you to marry him, he has no reason to think you are engaged nor to expect you to tell people that you are. I got a cheapo dime store ring when he proposed, like the kind with an adjustable band. He tried to pick out a ring, but was worried I wouldn't like it, etc. So after I said yes & all of that, we went together to go see what he picked & get it sized, etc. I told everyone i was engaged right away & didn't really have "the ring". I would not have said I was engaged though until he did actually propose & I did say yes. That is kind necessary to getting engaged, someone has to be asked & the other person has to say yes.

Tell him if he wants to be engaged he has to actually propose.
