So lately we've been having a few issues with the new neighbors down stairs. The main issue is they smoke alot of pot. I have nothing against people who smoke pot, I've smoked it back in the day and still have a few friends that occasionally do. The issue is my son has 3-4 different therapist coming to our apartment a week and I don't want them to think its me or my SO. Its not like the smell stays in 1 room either our whole place reeks when they smoke, and yesterday was a little hazy. We have brought it to our landlords attention but the tenant downstairs said it was a candle...it was definitely no candle. How would you feel and what would you do? We do plan on moving when the lease is up. Also I'm 7 weeks pregnant...

When u smell it strong, call the landlord n tell him/ her to come smell. How much longer til your lease is up?

He will not come. He claims to always be busy at the firehouse and doesn't even answer back right away. The lease is up August 1st.

Call the police or try like code enforcement. That's not healthy for ur child.plus u being pregnant and ur landlord should consider that.

Yes I agree. And he can't get you for breaking it for no reason. U have your child's health to consider.

We saved the text messages we sent to him. We've complained twice, we can't afford to break the lease but if this continues I feel like its grounds for us not to get charged. The next time it happens I guess we will have to call the police. I don't want to be that neighbor but I'm also not going to stand for it.

Do you think maybe I should stick a note in their mailbox? Or just leave it up to the landlord or the police (if it has to go that far)

Leave it up to your landlord. It's his responsibility but if he isn't taking care of it, call the police. U have the right to. U pay rent there.

The same thing happened to us. I approached the girl and said "Listen, you are young you smoke pot, I get it, I did it. Is there some way however to minamize the smell, like out a window or something?" and she did

Our landlord called us again to reassure he talked to them and explained we have therapists visiting alot. If it happens a third time its lack of respect and I'm just calling the police. That way also it'll be on record if we were ever to have a problem.

I might call the police and make a report anyway. Just in case a therapist was to contact CPS, you would have reported first

Yeah that's probably a good idea. I'm going to see what my SO thinks when he gets home.
