Asking to be induced at 38 weeks ?
posted 8th Jan
I have an appointment tomorrrow with my Ob, I'm currently doing weekly appointments and have been for a few weeks now due to the fact my baby is in breech. I'm extremely uncomfortable and was going to ask if I could be induced at 38 weeks. Do you think he would? I have had many people tell me usually they will if I want it and the babys health is ok along with mine? Just looking for opinions or other ladie who have been induced and could give me some insight. I'm already aware that its more painful and makes more of a chance for c-section.

Why force it? Every woman is uncomfortable at the end of pregnancy, you've just gotta deal with it until baby's ready.

I would not suggest it, especially if the baby is breech

Most women are uncomfortable at the end of pregnancy. I would not recommend it. Baby isn't ready yet and if baby is breech right now by the time it decides it is time to make an appearance it might not be breech anymore.

Probably not.
1- Most doctors don't attempt breech deliveries vaginally so you'd have to have a c/s.
2- Most doctors will not electively induce until 39 weeks.
3- A lot of doctors will not feel comfortable electively inducing a first time mom earlier than 40 weeks.
For what it's worth, I loved my induced deliveries. I was induced with my last 2 kids at 39 weeks because I asked if it was possible. Those 2 were the best labors/deliveries I had.

It will really depend on your OB. The office I go to will NOT induce you prior to 40 weeks + unless it is medically necessary. Good luck but baby still has time to come out of the breech position and it may not happen even if you are induced...

I'm in Ontario too, the law here is that they need a good legal reason to induce u 9 days before your due date, so he probably wouldn't at 38 weeks but maybe a few days before you're due

The baby can turn. You've got any where from a week to three left. You've made it thus far.

I hope for yours and baby's sake that he won't.
He can't if baby is breech, anyway.
Yeah, pregnancy is uncomfortable. You signed up for 40-42 weeks...I suggest you suck it up and wait it out. Baby will come when he/she is ready...you won't be pregnant forever.

In our state they are not allowed to induced before 39 weeks. Each state may be different.
Best of Luck.

That is not smart if your baby is still breech. Any OB that would induce you with a breech baby before your due date, for no reason, is not a OB I would let deliver my baby.
I say wait it out and give baby time to mature and turn...

Well I know my Ob induced my cousin at 38 weeks.. so its not illegal.

It's still not smart if there's no medical reason. Every woman is uncomfortable at 38 weeks, it doesn't mean they should all be induced.

They won't induce if the baby is breech most of the time. And no it's not illegal, but there is normally medical reasons behind induction. They won't just randomly end a healthy pregnancy that's progressing normally. Being uncomfortable is part of the fun of the 3rd tri.

Quoting Demitreia Moore:" Well I know my Ob induced my cousin at 38 weeks.. so its not illegal."
But you're breech. Go ahead and find an OB willing to deliver a breech baby vaginally.
