How do I stop?

I don't know what started this all but since I was probably 6 or 7 years old, I've been biting my lip. I don't mean once, but biting it over and over to the point where I'm taking big pieces out. It doesn't hurt when I do it or the day after, but it starts getting to the point where it's the worst pain I've ever felt. It actually affects my life when I have to deal with this pain. I always think that I won't do it again because it hurts so bad but I always do. I need to know how to stop, I hate that I do this to myself over and over. The pain is too much..and I have a high pain tolerance.

Self- control.


You literally have to trick your mind into just not doing it. Easier said then done, I know.

Yeah. :l well for some reason when I was pregnant with my son, I wouldn't..I didn't even think about it. But after I had him, it started again. Hopefully once this one heals, I'll stop again.

Substitute for something else. Suck on a candy, Write a poem. Anything to distract you from doing it. Replace a bad habit with a better one basically 

chew gum, or eat hard candies to keep your mouth busy??

sounds like an addiction. if you don't find that you can stop on your own, I would seek help of a professional counselor! sounds awful and it sounds painful!

It is soo awful and I always get so mad at myself for doing it.

Now I need to ask. Is it a self harm thing or is it a not even noticing kind of thing?

I'm not really sure..I know it started out of nowhere. I do it and know I'll regret it, but when I'm doing it..it's just like I am in a trance or something. Sounds really smurfing weird, I know. :l

Have it. And snakebites..which helped for a short time. Now it only hurts more when I do it.

Try the tooth picks, they may help. Good luck! I also have a lip piercing, so I have something to suck on.
