I know it is complex, but a new one you will likely start hearing come up more in the coming years is a resource based economy versus our current monetary systems. There is a lot more info out there on it than you'd think if you dig a little.

The idea is basically that the current monetary system cannot last where the prices keep increasing, resources keep getting depleted & money keeps being printed even though there is no gold or silver to back it any longer, automation is doing away with more & more middle class jobs...and when it collapses, what are we left with? & should we work toward a resource based economy BEFORE we hit that cliff? And is a resource based economy feasible?...

I would go with either Circumcision because America is the only country in the Western World where people really do it and they use the false excuse that it decreases risk of infections of sti/d's however they are one of the highest in the Western World for these.

Or Home Birth vs. Hospital Birth again for similar reasons as above. America is the only country in the Western World that is OBGYN led whereas everywhere else is Midwife led and again America has the highest rates of infant mortality in the Western World due to things going wrong in birth. Also there is a great Documentary called The Business of Being Born which could give you some great ideas to start off with.

Also it should get everyone quite interested and involved in the debate because those are both things that most people will have to deal with and make a decision about in their lifetime and a lot of people probably aren't aware that circumcision and obgyn led births aren't the norm outside of America so it could be quite thought provoking.

Every country measures infant mortality by differnt standards. You cant compare rates unless you have consistent measures.

In The Business of Being Born, if I remember correctly they do state the have the highest rates of infant mortality due to things going wrong in the birth so they must've got those specifics from somewhere. Unless of course they were trying to mislead the audience, I'm sure if the facts are out there they would be easy to confirm or not.

The Us, overall, has a pretty smurffy health care system in place when compared to other industrialized nations. I'd assume infant mortality is part of that.

I havent seen the movie but i am certain that countries report their stats based on different criteria.

Also, I'm not saying that the US has anything to clebrate regarding infant mortality, just saying that it is hard to have a credible debate when the basis for good info is flawed.

Oh yeah I know that. I'm just pointing out if that specific information is out there then it should be easy to find and if not and it was said in a misleading way in the docu then the info won't be there so don't include it. However that said there is still lots of other information that can be used in the for and against so it is still a good debate and there are plenty of other good ideas to start off with in the docu.

You did not seriously just cite a movie starring Rikki Lake as credible did you?

If you read what I actually said I advise watching that to begin with just to get some general ideas and I also acknowledge the docu could have worded the infant mortality in a misleading way so try to gather own evidence and double check. So essentially no I didn't actually.

Thanks for all of the ideas ladies! I'm going to research a bit of everything & see what I can come up with.

I mentioned father's rights vs father's responsibilities to her & she was really intrigued, said that's one she has yet to see in her 30+ years of teaching & would like to see it done if I can find enough info about it. Thing is, we need a working bibliography... 2 books, 2 scholarly journals, 2 magazine or newspaper articles, 1 interview & 1 other source.
