What's the youngest

You would let your child stay in the car alone for up to 5 minutes (locked, running with heat/AC, you can see the car from where you are)?

ETA: And by see the car from where you are, I mean no more than 100 feet away. Lol.

Also, if you have a reason why or why not, explain. And add in what type of area you live in.

I did it with my infant as she was in my garage and I could see her.
If you are talking about a public parking lot, I'd also have to be very close but id still do it during infancy.

My son is 4, and I have not yet.
Not really sure when I will.

My kids are 3, and if I have to run in to pay for gas or grab a drink or something, I'll leave them in the car with the doors locked and give them something to keep them occupied. Never longer than 5 min tops, though.

I park the closest I can get to the door, also. Because no way am I taking two three-year-olds out of their carseats for just five minutes to run in and out of a gas station real quick.

ETA: I've always done that, as a single mom of twins, it's more of a hassle to drag BOTH of them out of the car for less than five minutes.

Like if I had to run INSiDE the gas station? I'd say 5, but if I'm just pumping I'd say any age. Ya know?

Well yes. I would say if you can touch the car, that's exempt from this D&D. Lol. I wouldn't take my kids out to pump gas! That's a hassle. And when I am pumping gas, technically I'm closer to my daughter then than I am when I'm driving. Haha

I've left her on the driveway asleep for 2 minutes while I unlock the door and dump bags in the house, but I don't think I could leave her inside the car in public. I'd pump gas and pay with my card at the pump. I can't imagine many other scenarios in which I'd need to leave her in but be that close still.

My car can auto start and run for a small period of time if the doors are locked
assuming my child is young and not old enough to walk or grab things dangerously in the car I let them stay in there while I run inside a gas station or while I pump gas....depending on childs age is the big key and can your car be locked and running without keys in the ignition kind of thing

I have left my 3 year old and 6 month old to pay for gas at a walk-up window or to use an ATM. I always parked so where I would be 5 feet maximum from the car.

To go INSIDE a building, the oldest would have to be at least 6 or 7, and know how to lock and unlock the car doors.

I live in NYC.

My youngest is harnessed and my oldest knows better than to unbuckle unless I tell him to. And my car TECHNICALLY shouldn't be able to lock and run but I can pull the key out of the ignition while it's on. DH's truck can lock from the keypad on the outside with the keys still in it.

I left DD in the car once when she was 15 months old because as we were walking down the driveway to the car I dropped the diaper bag and it spilled EVERYWHERE! So I put her in the car with it running since it was so freaking hot out and went back to clean up my mess. It took maybe five minutes to get everything picked up but she was never out of my sight.

Haha oh yeah duh! I always feel guilty when dd is sleeping when we come home from the grocery store..like do i leave her in the car while I run groceries in? Or do I wake her up and walk back and forth with her? We live in a nice neighborhood so I usually leave her sleeping while I drop the groceries off inside...but I still get nervous! She is 15 months

My biggest worry would be the one day I turned my back for a second the classic horror story begining and that be the day LO would grab the gear shift , the emergency break or lock you out unknowingly etc. and it can happen so its on you momma I dont blame you tho once LO was in a convertible car seat he took alot less trips inside places if I could do it in the time limit my car will run on its own without the keys ...I am spoiled by this cause I can start my car inside the house for heat or ac so when I get to the car with LO its great

Well I don't really have that concern. My garage is within my house and once I close the big door it's all locked down. Lol.

But when I used to live in an apartment, I would run up to the building and prop all of the doors open, run out, get her and bring her in, then bring stuff in.
