My old car had a remote start! It was awesome! And it would run for 30 minutes without keys!!

I miss that car. It was the one that came in it!! Not an aftermarket one! I'm getting a new car in the summer but it's a Honda and the keyfob is on the key. So all of this is out of the question then anyway.

in a public place...probably not until she's like 7, as long as i can see the car and whatnot.

Last summer a bunch of us went to have a BBQ in this big park. 2 other couples and myself had children. The oldest was a 5 year old boy that had some illness where he was paralyzed or something so he couldn't really talk or move, then there was my daughter who was 2 and then a young baby around 2 months old. After we BBQ'd and drove around the park, the guys saw a field and decided to stop and play soccer. My daughter and the youngest baby were sleeping and the oldest boy like I said was handicapped. We left the doors open on the van and left all the kids inside while us girls sat on the grass, close enough to the van to hear if the kids woke up. It made sense because there was no shade in the field so even if we brought the kids out and let them sleep in their car seats, the lack of shade was ridiculous. Also, the other mother didn't see the point in taking out her son's wheelchair and lifting him into it and moving his oxygen tank just to have him out for like 20 minutes while the dudes goofed off with a soccer ball.

I've never left them for any more than a minute & that has been like load one kid in the car, go inside & grab the other, etc. Not really leaving so much as juggling. Or if I forgot the diaper bag, run back to teh door & grab it. But no. I don't ever leave them in the car. I am never in a situation where I need to.

And why are people paying inside gas stations? I never do that. It's a hassle. Why not pay at the pump? I've even had the pump misread my card & I just either keep pushing buttons until it clears OR I move to a new pump. LOL I am not going in, even when alone. That defeats why I got my card.

I work at a preschool and there's a mom at my work who consistently leaves her four year old and/or her infant in the car alone in the parking lot for long periods of time. The four year old is incredibly violent and has impulse control issues. It makes me sick that she would leave them alone that long, and I think it's insane that she's leave the helpless newborn in there alone with the four year old with ZERO supervision.

I go inside to get other things. And one gas station I go to a lot is cash only. And I go there because it's 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon.

From birth though I don't typically leave the car running if I'm leaving it, especially if it's only 5 minutes.

I remember when we went to a park for Mother's Day. It was chilly because of the wind and my youngest at the time (6 months old or so) fell asleep so I put her in the car, locked it, and checked in on her. It was a secluded county park and the parking lot was right by the picnic area.

We were the only ones there so it wasn't a big deal.

I go inside because I don't like waiting 3-4 days for my transaction to clear on my bank account. And I may grab a water or juice for the twins while I'm in there.

*shrugs* I think it's all about where you live, too.

I would probably never leave a child in a car if I lived in NYC or Chicago or something. I live in a city but it's in South Dakota. I'm not real worried.

Honestly, I think the small towns are worse. There's that false sense of security that it would NEVER happen in MY town but it does. Ever notice that the media sensationalized child abductions and murders happen in small town America?

Yeah, I live in Thomasville, NC where everyone either knows everyone, or knows someone that knows someone, lol.

Now, where I'm originally from (Alexandria,VA - about 20 minutes from DC), I would never leave the twins in the car by themselves up there, no way.
