Food & their eating habits

posted 8th Jan
OK so after taking a poll on another thread & a conversation with a friend of mine I am now wondering if you buy foods your kids eat but you don't? Do you not buy foods they like but you don't?

DS loves sweet potatoes and DH and I don't care for them but buy them for him to eat.

I hate peas but still buy them (not as many as I would green greens or something else).

Of course! I buy broccoli for Olivia even though I can't even stand the smell. I take her to buffets occasionally and if she likes stuff they have that I do not normally make, I add it to my menu plans for her.

No. If I don't like something, I don't buy it. I won't make my daughter eat something that I wouldn't eat.

Does she surprise you when picking foods you never thought she'd like?

DD2 has done this to me many times.

All the time. She likes nearly every vegetable, including the ones kids stereotypically despise.

Yes, we absolutely hate bananas (SO and I) but I buy them for DD. If she doesn't eat them once they go mushy I make banana bread which I will eat.

I hate peppers though, she can experience those on her own time lol. They stink up the whole house. yuck.

ETA: We also still eat things that DD doesn't like. She hates chunky tomatoes in sauce, sliced fresh tomatoes, any tomato that isn't ground up. I still use them. She also despises fish (probably because she has seen daddy clean them.) and wont touch it unless it is a fishstick. She dislikes all seafood, she just eats more of the other stuff we have. I always have her try a bite.

Both girls love seafood. DD1 has her nana make her crab eat because I hate it and us girls eat shrimp any way any style DH and DS won't touch it.

As far as snacks and lunches go, I'll get him his own foods. We may also eat them or we may not, but I do buy them specifically with LO in mind. Sometimes I get chef boy r dee type foods that are easy for DH to give LO for lunches, but I would never eat any of them (DH does sometimes though). As far as dinners go, I cook one meal that we all can eat. I also buy DH things that I don't eat and I buy things that I like that I know DH nor LO will eat.

Yes.
I dont eat ground chicken or ground turkey. But I buy them to make the babies burgers and spaghetti dishes with, just cause its a bit healthier.

I buy cottage cheese and pineapples just for lo, she is the only one who likes it as well as avocados.

But everything I mostly buy for my 4 and 10 yr old we all eat. But the kids school lunch stuff, cause its for school.

But when I make lo's different foods, its to freeze and make up real quick on nights we go out to eat or order take out food, just cause well I dont want her at 11 months eating non homemade foods. lol
