Weaning pacifier cold turkey?

posted 8th Jan
BD and I decided that it's time to take B's paci away. She's 17 months and we can see it's affecting her teeth, so we decided to wean her cold turkey.

If you did the same, how many days did it take for your kid to kind of get over their pacifier?

We only have 3, so I know there is no possibility for her to find one randomly while playing.

Ahhh.
Yeah. Leah's getting her snatched, SOON.
Sorry, I'm no help, obviously since my 2.5 year old still has one

She turns into a monster when I try to take it...
My tip? Do it NOW before she actually can remember that it's gone

We took all of DD's away cold turkey at 14 months. She never really noticed they were gone.

My daughter wasn't 2 yet and we legit lost all hers (she was down to one and we lost it). It was bed time and I sure wasn't running out to buy more pacis... so she essentially went cold turkey. Surprisingly she didn't fuss for it, went to sleep...and never asked for it the following days.

She's an only so she wasn't tempted by a younger sibling. Recently she's been wanting one (there was a new baby born in the family who uses one) but now she's 3 and of course I don't allow it.

DD took 4 nights of whining, before she really got over it.
she was 17 months old too when we took hers away.

idk if this is an option but you can always try giving her a replacement "comforter". like a blankie or a doll or something.

DD has a blankie and that, i think, helped her get over her pacifier obsession.

Hahaha I wanted to do it 6 months ago. I couldn't handle the whining   I'm gonna have her help me throw them away tomorrow morning, and then Scott is taking her Thursday night until Saturday sooo I'm only going to have to deal with the whining for one day and one night lol.

I took my daughters away at about 9 months and my sons a bit sooner. My daughter cried or should i say screamed for about an hour the first night about 20 mins second and 5 third night. My son didn't cry at all. If you take it though you cant give in so you need to make sure you're ready for it. She might surprise you. My friend told het daughter that the dummy fairies needed her dummies for the other children and that she needed to find them all fir the fairies. That seemed to work. Your daughters a bit older and understands a bit more so it might be better to use a story thats relevant to her.

That's a good idea. I'll let her pick out one of her stuffed animals or something. She already has a blankie, but it looks like a rag

I'm not sure how much she actually understands, though. She seems to get the concept of throwing something away, so I'm going to have her help me throw them in the dumpster tomorrow morning.

I took my daughter's away just last week. She just turned 20 months, and I decided it was time to get rid of it.

She was asking for it, so when I went to find it I decided I was going to cut the tip off. I cut it, then handed it to her. She threw it at me and started spitting everywhere.. said it was "bwoke!" I asked her if it needed to go in the trash since it was broken, and she shook her head yes and ran off to throw it away.

She asked for it... maybe twice after that? Both times I told her that she told me it was broken and that it went to the trash. Haven't heard anything about it since.

It went a lot smoother than I had thought it would. She was pretty attached to it... especially for nap/bed time.

I took the boys pacis at 3 months. The day they turned 3 months, that morning, I took them all. They noticed that day, that they didn't have one, but the next day they were back to their usual selves.
