Tattoos while BF-ing

I intend to get a tattoo symbolizing my son in some way but he's EBF & I have been informed that it is dangerous. The person didn't say why though. Please educate me on the subject

No, it's not dangerous. The ink does not pass into your milk or anything.
They just worry about infection which is stupid because as long as you take proper care of it and go to a reputable place you will be fine. I got one on my chest even while breastfeeding. My son is in perfect health. :]


It also did not make my supply dip but my son was closer to 6-7 months old.

The stress on your body can make your supply dip for a bit (your body's energy will be focusing on healing the tattoo area's skin and fighting off any possible small infection). But if you have a good supply or if he's past the point of solely relying on breast milk, you're fine. Just follow the usual rules of getting tattooed (making sure the place is clean and reliable) and you'll be fine.  

Most reputable artists won't ink a nursing mother.

I have heard it's because if it were to get infected the infection could pass through the breast milk.
Even well taken care of there is a chance of infection.

I had this talk with my tat artist last week... im formula feeding but i wanted to know why it was dangerous. he said its in case you were to get an infection... if you get an infection in your blood stream you could become septic and thats very dangerous. i mean as long as its a clean place i wouldnt see the issue but i dont know if a reputable place would do it if you told them. ask your pedi
