I agree, which is why I said as a host I wouldn't expect it, but as a mother I would get my child to help if we were guests.

Oh, my personal opinion still stands though lol. I mean in our culture, as guests, we are expected to 'offer' to help, but as hosts we can never accept the help.

I would prefer that over what my friends kid does. When she comes over with her 2 year old, he breaks things, throws stuff everywhere, and throws giant fits. His mother just sits there and doesn't say or do anything and he doesn't listen to me. And since he's not my child, I can't punish him. *sigh*

Yikes, I'd have a hard time not saying something in that circumstance! You must have the patience of a saint!

Maybe it's me, but I have no problem telling other children they need to clean up. I always remind them thirty minutes before they leave with an "Okay, time to pick up the room and put everything back in place." After a little while, I make it a game..whether it be "whoever picks up the fastest is the winner!" or the clean up song.

Even if I were the host, it is common courtesy. Kids need to learn it, just like their mothers should know it. It may not be spotless and things may not be put back the the exact spot, but there needs to be an effort.

If I am a guest at someone's house and they make supper, I gladly set the table and offer to clean the dishes. Sometimes it is refused, but it is just the courtesy to offer.

Maybe I should have just stepped in. I mean, I always make my kids clean up when we go to their house. I don't expect perfection but see..our house is 750 sq ft. Our living room is about 150 sq ft with a couch, a chair, a coffee table and a bookshelf. In other words, toys. were. everywhere.

Ha! I wish lol. I really wanna say something about it, but she doesn't listen to advice and is against discipline all together unless she does it. Sometimes I find its better to keep my mouth shut lol. Less headaches that way.
