You are your fathers dependent, but your baby is not. His insurance won't cover his grandchild (unless he's the legal guardian).

I guess I don't understand why you want to drop your insurance coverage?? Just to get on Medicaid???

Here in MI they would give me Medicaid to cover the deductibles of my insurance plan. Not sure how it is anywhere else, but maybe you should look into that?

Because I don't have $3000+ to pay for medical bills. plus every time I go to a doctor I pay $30 copay and they don't cover much on medicine. It ends up a lot in the end.

I was planning to do that, but since I'm their dependent I have to put in their income and its WAY too much. I couldn't even get financial aid when I tried signing up for school.

Insurance, and I guess taxes too since I didn't know he was claiming my daughter.

you might want to double check when I was 19 an had my daughter I was considered not a dependent anymore. I would say for taxes just have your fiancee claim you and the kid.. it would goto the it's and as long as he can prove he supported you guys ..... and insurance... you should know the carrier and I would just call their line and explain to them and they will transfer you to the correct number

If he isn't the legal guardian for your daughter then he is committing insurance and tax fraud. Tell your fiance to claim her if that's what you want to do. As far as the insurance, go and apply for medicaid. She will get the benefits. Don't use your dad s insurance any more for your daughter or the new baby, or else you are just as guilty of committing fraud.

Is he legally supporting either of you? Do you live with him? Is he your daughter's legal guardian?

Umm welcome to the real world?? Standard insurance is 80/20 with deductibles anywhere from a couple hundred to thousands. I'm not sure how it is with children/non minors on parents insurance but I'm on SO's and if he doesn't claim me as a dependent on his taxes then he has tax implications because I'm covered by his insurance which is deducted pre-tax on from his paychecks. You have to realize that your dad is paying your health premiums to carry you on his insurance plus you are living in their house. I think it only fair that they claim you on taxes.

I think it's different with children. My parents got audited for claiming my daughters and I when we lived with them even though I'm still stuck on theor insurance.

She's not eligible for Medicaid because she already has coverage through a private carrier. Her father is the only one who can drop her insurance. He won't be able to cover the grandchild though, the baby can get Medicaid.
