If her dad pays more than half of her daughters living expenses (they live with him so more than likely he is) he CAN claim her for taxes.

In MI they don't care about your income for the medicaid if you're pregnant. It doesn't cover everything, but my copays and deductibles. I guess we're lucky.

Not true. I'm on BCBS Federal and Medicaid. Medicaid pays for whatever BCBS doesn't. They've done so on several other occasions. Same with my oldest daughter. She's on BCBS Federal (parents forged a guardianship letter  ) and Prestige Medicaid in Florida.

But I can't take my daughter off his insurance. Only he can do that. I haven't used the insurance for her since last june.

My dad or my fiance? We live with my parents but my fiance supports us. He's my daughters dad.

That's really weird because my ex-SIL's parents claimed her and her child, as well as another minor that they had informally adopted(not legally) but they supported him financially 100%. I had my 1st at 19 and my dad could have carried my son and I on his insurance but I moved out and got my own. That was almost 4 yrs ago though so I suppose things could have changed.

And OP, atleast here anyways its total household income that you have to claim..not who claims you as a dependent. And you can get medicaid if you have private insurance...medicaid acts as a secondary insurance and pays whatever primary doesn't but again you have to meet the financial requirements.

So how do I get medicaid for the baby? Do I do it before or after baby is born?

Maybe it differes by state or something?
I dunno if it makes a difference but my folks are retired out of the federal government. Pretty much my dad's income comes from tax payers along with his insurance.

We only live here. Food, clothes, or anything she needs my fiance buys. And we give my parents money when they ask for it.

I have absolutely no clue why they would have been audited. Did you file a return too possibly and claim yourself or your daughter as a dependent? Or if you made over x amount of money they can't claim you. Who knows the IRS and all that tax biz is so sketchy.

Ahh, I'm sure the "rules" vary by state.

I got the impression OP isn't eligible for Medicaid because she already has coverage AND her househould income is too high.

It's very similar in Kansas. I wouldn't be able to get state assistance (insurance) for my son because my employer offers it. Even though the monthly premiums are over half my salary. Needless to say, I don't take out insurance through my job.

If the mother isn't already covered then I'm pretty sure you have to wait till after. Usually if the moms already on medicaid the hospital will forward paperwork to DHS and its automatic.

Go on the Internet and google the insurance company. It should give you a phone number.

If your dad isn't your daugnter's legal guardian and not providing over 50% of her expenses then he shouldn't be able to claim her on his taxes and if he does he can get in big trouble. Do you pay rent? Utilities?

I don't know, I would guess after since they'll probably need a social security number. Your father's insurance will cover the newborn for up to 30 days, but nothing after that unless the baby is added on to the policy.

How is your dad covering your daughter?? Is he the legal guardian??

For our insurance they just have to provide half the living expense and be able to be claimed as a dependent...don't have to be the legal guardian. SO covers me on his insurance and could put my son on there as well and if not claimed as a dependent he would just pay the difference come tax time from them taking out the premiums pre tax.

But for the OP I would be careful that you don't screw yourself over because here if you went off your dads insurance you probably still wouldn't qualify for medicaid because you have to claim the income of everyone that lives in the house. Also unless its been changed, for pregnancy medicaid there's a gestational deadline for when you can apply...after so many months and they wont let you on.
